Hey, just a quick heads-up...I spoke with a lady that does this one each year who was down on Belle Isle last week, and she said that the venue is torn-up...since the Detroit Grand Prix is not taking place this year, that they've torn up lots of pavement, including lots of segments of the bike course and transition.

Make sure you get a status on the course prior to sign-up.

merde, good to know rick, thanks.  i am signed up for the oly.  as for which course...since it's either two loops of the island or four, you'll hit the torn up spots no matter what.

my source says the road looks like it did last year, but she will be verifying this tomorrow.  I wonder if its in the T2 area?

if they could tear up that so called paved path from the back part of the run it would be an improvement Laughing

Did a couple loops on saturday, there is some construction on an interior road, but nothing that prevented traffic and none of it is on the bike course. At best it will have minimal impact on those driving into the parking area (the lot was full of cars, so obviously they can get by the construction) and at worst it will impact the final stretch of the run-something more easily moved to grass if need be.

Oly, here.  I was down there with my son 2 weeks ago to see the big frozen tree, which is right at T1 (we ADD kids love big shiny objects) and saw no issues with the loop around the island.  With Element Events doing a similar event on 7/11 I'd guess they'll be able to do a few things to help get it right.  And, there are quite a few areas they could move T2 to and still use the same basic course.  If I can shoot out of work early this week, I take a slight detour home and take a spin around the island and report back.

Olympic.

To reinforce comments earlier, the outer road itself should be fine (by fine, I mean no different then last year).  No trucks ride the road, and we had a tame winter, so dont expect major damage.  The interior roads (and the run trail) have always sucked.  If the road around the fountain in to T2 sucks, so be it, you only have to ride over that once.

Now if there is construction, thats a whole other story.

I'm planning on the Olympic, too.  I've never done Motor City, but should be fun!

Figured I'd bump up the most "official" thread for a Who's Racing Count.  Its gonna be a hot one by the looks of the extended forecast!

The website isn't too clear on whether there's going to be morning packet pickup - they say no same day registration, but does anyone know about the pickup?

Coop, they had packet pick up on Saturday afternoon last year and I'd assume it'll be the same this year as they'll be down there for the SuperKids event on Saturday, which reminds me:

1.  Ted - Olympic
2.  Coop - Olympic
3.  jplotzke (Jeff) - Sprint
4.  Tess SuperKids on Saturday

Edited to add, found this:

Packet Pickup/Registration: Day Before at thecasino on the island 12:00pm to 3:00pm Saturday, NO DAY OF REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT. The casino is the large building next to the fountain at the south end of the island.
