I am racing! (I use the term racing lightly, this is my first tri).

Anyone training in the Kinnelon/Butler/West Milford area?

I inadvertently started the thread, oh well.  I'm in central Jersey.  This is also my first tri and I'm pretty excited about it.  The upside to it being the first is we are guaranteed to set PRs!

I'm doing this one as well.  This is my 2nd tri...my first one was 2 weeks ago in Harriman State Park and I couldn't wait to do another.  This looks like a good one for us beginners!

I just signed up today.  This will be my first tri and I haven't started the swimming or biking training yet (gulp).  However, I am currently running ~25 mpw in preparation for fall marathon.  I figured this would be a good incentive to cross train.

By the way, does anyone know anything about the wave starts, and is there a cap to the # in the field?

I sent an email to the RD, no word on wave order yet.

I'll be racing along with my buddy LJ.

I ride a 25 mile loop from my house in Kinnelon through Boonton, Denville and Mountain Lakes.  I run around Kinnelon and swim at the NYSC in Butler (25m pool) and I sneak into Mountain Lake in Mountain Lakes from time to time.

Drop me a line if you'd like to ride sometime.

I hear they are expecting ~400 people and there will be at least 5 different waves.

This will be my second tri, I did the JerseyMan earlier in the year and b/c of my age I was put in the first mens heat (elite/pro) and by no means am I an elite or pro triathlete, and to be honest it was very intimidating. I was wondering if anyone knows how the heats will be set up?

Just got the pre-race info email - I really hope that it isn't a preview of the organization and knowledge of triathlon that the organizers have, or it's going to be a rough day:

 * Cyclist must attach the number to the cross-bar on the bike.  I wouldn't call myself new to the sport, or bikes, but I had to google this one.  It's called a top tube last I checked.
 * Slower moving cyclists must keep to the right.  How about ALL cyclists keep to the right.  I don't care how slow/fast you are, if you're not on the right, it's a safety hazard to anyeone that might be passing you.  For a beginner-friendly race, the wording on that advice is terrible.
* Upon completion of the bike course, cyclists must dismount and walk into the transition area.  I can't jog/run?  If so, during which point does this rule apply?  All of T2, or just crossing the entrance?

We'll see.  Don't sweat it until the race.

P.S. I won't be walking anywhere during the race. Laughing

Does anyone have the course map?  I haven't seen anything yet (even the e-mail referenced earlier).

I haven't found any specific information about the course.  To my knowledge, the only info available is the short page on raceforum and the email.

My girlfriend, who is also racing, emailed the organizers regarding a course map and they sent her one.

I hosted the map at imageshack.com.  If you right click the image you'll find a "marquee zoom" option.  Click that and the area you wish to zoom in on for a larger picture.

Hope this helps you guys out.  Good luck and see you Sunday!

Hmm, I get 10.7 miles, not 12.  Not a big deal.  Pancake flat - 72 total feet of climbing.  Double lap, with a 2 mile straightaway that you get to do 3 times, plus two more halves.  Could be a very fast ride, assuming road quality is good.

Descent road from what I remember.  Definitely expect a fast ride.

Hurt my knee on a training run and it's bothering me pretty badly.  Hopefully ice will help it get better before the race.

I'm bummed. Cry

Bummer - rest and ice, get better soon.

Talked to my friend that lives in town - he agrees that the pavement there is good.  I'm psyched, could be a great chance to get low in a really tight tuck and crank out high speeds.

I'm averaging just under 15mph on my mtb!  Be kind as you blow by me!  Psyched for this race.  I'm tapering this week (1st time) and it is killing me.  All I want to do is get out there and put in some serious miles. Trying to keep myself cool.

See You There!

15 mph is certainly respectable.  I'm more concerned about the swim.  First time TRI at have done minimal swim training, though about a hundred years ago, I was a fairly good swimmer.  1/4 mile doesn't seem too long.
I saw someone posted that the ride is shorter than advertised, would be nice if the swim were also.

Any idea how we can find out how many have registered by age group and what the waves will consist of?

I haven't seen a listing of entrants anywhere; not sure if it's available.

If you used to be a good swimmer, it never really leaves you.  Lakes swims are nice and flat too.

As for the waves, they just announced them:
Finally, a race with smart start order (fastest first).  I was growing tired of us young people having to pass everyone and their grandmother because they start ahead of me.  Second lap will still be crowded though.

I don't know about numbers per age group, but here are the wave starts:

7:15 Wave 1 - Male 34 & UNDER (all Duathletes will start their run this time as well)
7:18 Wave 2 - Female 34 & UNDER
7:21 Wave 3 - Male 35 - 44
7:24 Wave 4 - Female 35 - 44
7:27 Wave 5 - Male 45 & OVER
7:30 Wave 6 - Female 45 & OVER, AND ALL RELAY TEAM SWIMMERS

And, for what's it's worth, age groups for awards are as follows:

19 & under
20 - 29
30 - 39
40 - 49
50 - 59
60 +

Just saw the wave list.  Why do the Relay swimmers start last?  Since they're only doing part of the race, aren't they more likely to be faster than those who are doing all of it?
I have no idea, since this is my first time, but it makes sense to me.

I did see a website with the names of people who had entered.  I haven't been able to find it a second time though.
