Maybe I'm crazy here, but I can't believe how much you people love your speed laces.  And no, it's not that I'm one of those people who doesn't mind the extra time tying my shoes.  It's just that I NEVER untie my shoes with regular laces.

Maybe I'm strange and I don't like my shoe so tight that my toes go numb, but I can't believe you guys can't slip on a pair of running shoes just by sticking your finger in the back like a shoehorn and sliding it in.  A quick pull on the tongue and you're done.

I've had the speed laces before - I actually didn't like them because they never got my shoe feeling just right.  Whereas the traditional laces can get adjusted just barely looser or just barely tighter over the course of several runs -- until it is dialed in just perfectly.  Then a double knot goes in and I've got perfectly perfect slip on shoes that fit me perfectly.

Anyone else want to come out of the closet (or tell me I'm missing some magical benefit of them, or that my shoes aren't on tight enough if I can slip them on, etc)?

Then don't use them. That was easy.

I guess I can see your argument; heck, in your case if it's not broken then don't fix it.

For me, I always liked tying my shoelaces and there was a race where they became untied and it really bothered me.  Sure, I tied them again, but i just didn't want to have to worry about it.  The Yankz I use are very adjustable and for the amount of money it is worth the piece of mind.....for me.

No I don't like them either.

My feet slip in my shoes with them and the 20 seconds they may save gives me much more discomfort than the few seconds I may save.

I had them on my old sneaks but never quite got used to them. Seems like I'd yank them tight but then somehow they'd loosen up by the toes and I'd have to re yank periodlically.

I can't use speed laces.  I am very particular about how tight my running shoes are and the speed laces never were right.  So I always tie them and leave them tied, just slip them on and go.

I got some Yankz about a month ago and love them.  No problems at all.

I just put on Yankz and I love them.  They are flexible enough that they let me slip my shoes on quickly and I never worry about the laces going loose or having to tie them.  My main problem is that I like my laces a little loose or they will hurt the tops of my feet.  It think that is why I tend to have problems with the laces getting loose, sloppy, or even coming untied.

I used them once in my shop fitted, custom insoled, perfectly comfortable running shoes, and they gave me a blister... I pulled them out and I have never been back.  Im not so competative that 3 seconds per shoe to tie will keep me awake at night if someone beats me by 5 seconds....

I may try them again after the last tri of the year... but for now, Im sticking with ole faithful laces...

I went to Yankz after a meltdown during T2 earlier this year and haven't looked back.

I think they're great because of the speed with which you can put them on but also because they have some play in them so that my feet don't actually feel like they're getting squeezed -- just the opposite. I don't wear socks, so the right fit is important given the blister potential.

Maybe I like my shoes tighter, but, no, I can't get my bare sweaty feet into pre-tied shoes. Yankz, speed laces and the like work much better. Especially love my Zoots which come with with elastic laces.

The fuel belt brand of lace locks work pretty well also.  Never had any issues with them and not having to tie shoes anymore....awesome!!

I am very particular about the fit of my shoes ("Princess and the Pea" my wife would say).

The problem for me with slipping shoes on and off is that over time, the laces near the toe get too tight as the slack all moves up the shoe toward the top. I can do it a few times, but by the fifth or tenth time, I have to readjust the laces.

Thus I love my lace locks. I use them on regular shoelaces and cut off the excess lace. They're much faster for me than tying my shoes, they don't come untied or loosen, and I can make minor adjustments in tightness in literally one second.

And when I take my shoes off, I just slide up the lace lock and voila, shoes off with messing up the laces.

In my last race  I was trying to sorta sneak up on a guy in my AG who is faster than me, the only way I can beat him is if he is in cooldown and I try to sprint past him at the last minute.
I blew past him in the last 1/4 mile and was in an all out run for the finish when my #$%%ing shoelace came untied and I had to stop. I lost a position by 7 seconds.

I went and bought speed laces that day. They seem to work well, when I told the owner or the running store what happened, she said "no offense, but you are an idiot for letting that happen"
She must know, she has pictures of her at IM Hawaii.
Either that, or she can just tell idiots right away.

I didn't think it was that obvious.

No way do my feet go into my shoes if they are laced up.  I like speed laces.  It took a lot of adjustment (including some 'non-standard' lacing) to get them to where my feet don't slip.  Now they work like a charm.

I like my running shoes tight, wrapped around my foot like it's part of it.  So trying to keep my laces that tight makes it impossible to just slip my foot in like you do.  The speed laces let me make them tight, but also give me that little bit of extra room I need to get my foot in.  I think my other option hasn't been around on a good pair of running shoes since the 80s... velcro

I don't like them.  I can't get the shoes tied correctly and I end up with blisters.  I'd rather spend an extra 15 seconds in T2 and be more comfortable running.  I can run much faster if I'm not getting a blister.

No way can I get my running shoes on without either tying laces or using speed laces.  I use the Xenex brand (spelling?) in my race shoes and adjusted them many times and now have them juuusssst right!

I've never tried them myself, but found they are fabulous for kindergartners who don't know how to tie their shoes.

I've got yankz and love 'em, got the tension just right.

That said, I used to be in the habit of not untying my laces, but because the laces weren't flexible it eventually broke down the heel support of the shoe.
