runnergirl - 2010-01-19 10:15 AM Is anyone looking for a speedsuit for the swim?  Here are some on sale.  I would definitely get one if I did Cozumel again

http://www.finisinc.com/Swimwear/Men/Performance

Thanks for the post. Great prices. Any input from someone on short vs. long suit? Thanks

G

I don't have one so I can't comment on long vs short.  I will say that a lot of athletes at Couzmel had them- I saw more short ones than fulls, but I did see both.  After the swim I was wishing I had one- I wore a tri top/shorts and my tri top was a little looser than I would have liked and definitely created some drag.  I tried to tuck the bottom of it into my tri shorts but no such luck- it wouldn't stay put.

Cool,

Thanks for the info.

G

Making my hotel reservations today....I keep going between Melia Cozumel or the Palace eventhough the price is much higher at the Palace....doing it through vacationstogo.com seems to be the best alternative.....Money mouth...any other suggestions, encouragement, etc, etc...;-)

Happy and Safe training!!!

My wife and I were going back and forth between Melia Cozumel and the Palace as well.  We ended up going with Melia Cozumel becuase of pricing and the beach activities are on-site for my wife.  We found that vacationstogo.com had the best prices.

I'm glad we have such a nice sized group! We have about a dozen of us from my area going so we're having a kick-off party next Friday, I'm so excited

Thanks for the tip - I bought 2 of those speedsuits, one short and one long. I figured for $20 each, it was worth it to try out both as I've never worn one before. Also, I googled and found another 20% off coupon (type in BAMP in the promotion code line), it wound up covering taxes and shipping!

Hey fellow BTers,
Sorry I'm a little late to the party but I'm in and excited about the race as well! For what its worth I booked hotel and airfare at the Wyndham through wyndhamvacations.com. In my opinion, this was a pretty good value and much cheaper than booking separately. Plus its all inclusive for those much needed post-race margaritas.

So how is everyone's training coming? I start my plan on March 21 so I'm doing a little of everything right now just trying to build a base...

Hi guys!

I am getting very excited!! I am building a strong base now and that way when my heavy training starts I hope to be ready for it. I am doing an olympic dist in April  (nautica) which should be great.. and will be running the Princess Half marathon this sunday in Disney, hopefully it will not be 2 cold...(I know I can't complain for those of u living up north).

Anyway, I think we are going to have a great group for Cozumel Laughing...lets keep up the thread and keep each other motivated.

What other races are u guys doing?

Great start to your season and good luck this weekend! I am building base by preparing for Lonestar 70.3 in April. Then I think I might take may a bit easy in May to recover both physically and mentally, then start hitting it hard in June. I would like to do 1-2 more half irons in the fall, but haven't decided which ones yet. I also need to book my hotel for Cozumel, maybe that will be my goal for this week!

Had a great marathon "Gasparilla" 3:51 cramped at mile 22 decided to walk run the rest. First my arms cramped then both calves. I have to many races this year to get injured. Beat last years time by 35 minutes, great day for me. Hit the trails racing this year "Xterra" Miami, FtMyers, and Pelham Alabama. Got a little bored with the road thought I would mix it up. So far I have been having fun as long as I can stay on the right side of the handle bars. lol Good luck with your race weather should be awesome.

Congrats on your Gasparilla marathon!!!! awesome time ;-). Sorry about the cramps, that sucks. From time to time I suffer from cramps in my calves and once they start I can't seem to get rid of them. This is one of my issues for the IM and I hope I can find the proper nutrition to help me with this situation.

Orlando is going to be cold but I am looking forward to it!! will give the full race report on Monday when I am back...thanks for the well wishes ;-)

keep on training...

Lol! yes and I am "double bragging" about my PR because my last PR on a half marathon was 10 years ago when I was a spring chicken...ha ha ha...

Thanks for asking about the cramps. I had none!!! I think wearing my compression socks really helped alot. I get very jittery at the thought of the IM, NERVOUS!!!

"fireman" tell your wife good luck in Sarasota, will she be doing Cozumel?
oh and tell her a little sightseeing is okay! lol

Ouch, Delta canceled my flight. I had booked through Expedia and paid in advance. Expedia issued a refund for the hotel but I have not received a refund for the airline tickets. I just flew Delta with my family on a ski trip and was a little surprised by the check baggage charges. I am nervous about bike charges and will try to avoid Delta in the future. Back to square #1 on travel and hotel arrangements. While in Atlanta I attended a multi-sport expo and a girl there who had done Cozumel suggested Air-trans direct to Cancun and taking the ferry. Has anyone else tried this option?

I'm not sure where you live, but I know that US Airways has a direct flight from Charlotte to both Cancun AND Couzmel.  We took a direct flight on US Airways from Charlotte to Cancun- at the time the direct flight to Cozumel didn't exist.  However, if I ever did this race again I'd pay the extra money and fly directly into Cozumel- it would cut down on travel time by quite a bit.   Plus it's just convenient.

Regarding baggage fees- I believe Southwest is the cheapest.  Not sure what their flight options are like for Cancun or Cozumel but it's worth looking into.

I'm about an hour from Charlotte so that would be great. I am about halfway between Charlotte and Atlanta. The closest airport is GSP in Greenville but it has become inconvenient to fly out of there and I would rather drive a little further to avoid dealing with a connecting flight.

Well I guess it is about time to get off the pot and book some tickets will try to get it done this weekend. My brother and his wife are  all doing cozumel so we are trying to work out all the details. "Trirun26" she had a good race took 4 more minutes off her time. I keep trying to get her to just run the marathon with me in Cozumel then she could say she did it. She doesnt like the bike or swim. We are going to be down in Miami doing the Xterra at the end of the month. Good luck with everybody's trng races. Im no longer nervous for Cozumel now it is just the build up train, train, train. Seems like so long away.

Wow!! "fireman" 4 minutes is alot, tell her congratulations..hmmm maybe one day she will get on the bike ;-)..

Is Xterra at Oletta park? My husband and I loved mountain biking there and running in the trails, it is awesome. Can't wait to hear how it goes. I wish I could say I am not nervous about Cozumel! the swim and the run don't make me nervous but the bike does as it is my weakest. So, bike bike bike is the name of the game!

Happy training...

Yes the race is in Oleta, hope it is drier there then here. We are still wet on the trails. Should make for an interesting race, my first xterra. Bike is my weakness but I figure I will have a good base since I have been trng not the same bike but legs are spinning. Weather stinks here today rain off and on with the wind looks like a good day to carb up for the race lol.

You guys are going to have a blast at Oleta Park. I did an adventure race a couple of years ago there and it is awesome. The weather is beautiful, sunny and in the low 70's. The traisl should be dry if this weather stays.

Have fun and I can't wait to hear the race report!

Hi everyone! IronMan Cozumel will be my first IM and I have yet to do any triathlon. I have run numerous marathons (my next one will be 5/1/10, Illinois marathon) and just started training for Cozumel 2 weeks ago. I have hired a coach and already noticed the HUGE learning curve but I hope to stick with it and see you guys at the finish line in Cozumel!

With that said, I had a question regarding USAT membership. I see that a USAT membership card or a one day membership is needed for a lot of the Ironmans but I don't see anywhere on the Cozumel site stating we need one. Does anyone know if we need one? I'd hate to arrive in Cozumel and be DQ for not having a valid USAT membership. Does this only apply for races in the US?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Kittan!

In regards to your question as far as I know all USAT races require u to have a membership. In all the triathlons I have done in the last years I have always been asked to show my membership. Just go on the USAT website and get a yearly one, it is much cheaper PLUS it makes u feel good to carry a card that says u are a triathelte..LOL!!!!

Good luck in your training and see u at the finish line in Cozumel!!! keep in touch on this site it is awesome and u can get sooo much information...bye for now

Tri on..
