Question about Speedsuits for this race.

It is my first Iron distance race, and I'm really nervous about not being allowed to wear a wetsuit.  I noticed that a lot of people from last year were wearing speedsuits.  I recently heard that USAT will be making speedsuits nonlegal for upcoming races.

Any comments?

If they are allowed, do they give much bouyancy?

Can't speak for bouyancy but I doubt you get very much bouyancy.

As far as I know Cozumel is not a USAT event and I would assume WTC rules apply in this case.  There was a thread going around about speedsuits not being allowed beginning Sept 1 but I'm not certain.

98hogbay - 2010-01-17 5:14 AM The Cozumel Palace was incredible. Period. The service was excellent, the food was great, the location couldn't have been better for IM. The hotel is literally 100 feet from the convention center (which is where meetings/registration take place) and about a 4 minute walk from the finish line. While there is no beach (because it is close to downtown), the pools are beautiful and there is a buoyed-off area in front of the hotel for snorkeling. They went out of there way to help IM athletes get prepared, with a 3am breakfast bar (to name one thing). Basically every room has an ocean view and a 2-person jacuzzi tub beside the bed--very helpful for recovery. You really felt like you were in a host hotel. You pay a bit more, but it was absolutely worth it. Because it is so close to the downtown, you can walk to most shopping, but you will need to take a cab to get to the Chakkannab. Cons? The only con is that you have to leave.

Thanks for the review. I didnt see Cozumel Palace on the host hotel list. did i miss it?

Hey guys! I am new to this sport. I did one sprint followed by my first half ironman in NO in preparation for Cozumel. Coming off that finish (although not as strong as I would have liked) I am super excited to have my focus totally on Ironman Cozumel. I am looking forward to interacting with you guys on the board over the course of the next few months! Anyone else leaving out of Houston for Cozumel on Turkey day? Hope to run into you.

I did Try-Charleston this past Sat. Made the idea of a full IM less appealing.

I'm doing Augusta as well.  It will be nothing more than a training day to practice pacing and nutrition but deep down I want to PR last years time

Hola to all. Nice to see the group growing. I can't believe it is down to six months!!!! Surprised I have butterflies on my stomach as I type.

I will be doing the HIM in Cancun on September. Should be fun and also looking at it more as training. I should be hotter than Cozumel, so good day to practice nutrition and hydration.

Have a good one everyone...

Just bought tickets & hotel room...things must be filling up because the package I saw for the Palace for the last 2-3 weeks disappeared right before I went in to buy it. So if you haven't, you should seriously consider booking your stuff ASAP.

Maybe somebody who knows ocean currents better can speak to this, but is there any chance the BP oil could start to migrate towards Cozumel? It doesn't seem likely given that the oil seems to be mostly dispersing towards the US, but 6 months is a long time & I figured I'd ask.

I found this site which seems to eliminate the possibility, just thought I'd get a confirmation if anyone has it.

I just switched over to my official Ironman Cozumel training plan and it has a HIM planned at the beginning of the peak phase.  I had already signed up for the Augusta HIM and I'm very please to discover the dates are perfect.  I was worried about having to adjust training to fit in a HIM but no need for that.  I am so excited about November!!!
