Expert 1118 , North Carolina | Subject: RE: Kure Beach Double Sprint Pete and I will be there! Also.... Pete considered putting cages on his bike for this race. I hadn't thought about it, but with two runs... changing from run shoes to bike shoes back to run shoes will take up time and be cumberson on the sandy beach. The bike is only 13 miles, so I doubt clips vs. cages would make much difference. The only problem is that I have never ridden my bike with cages. I had clips put on the day I bought it. Nothing new on race day, right?! I might swap out the pedals tonight and give it a go. |

New user 30 | Subject: RE: Kure Beach Double Sprint 1st post on BT! Yeah for me. Can't wait for Sunday. I'll be the fat, bald, shirtless guy that finishes almost last. But I WILL finish and that's my goal. Keyone: If you make it to the Bowl, as you're being seated whisper the word 'flounder' to the waitress and you'll get $2 off your meal. Seriously! I am a fan on Facebook and that is their word of the day. Race Info: I swam yesterday at the spot of the swim portion and saw a few jellys and 2 skates. Expect to see them Sunday and it will make it less spooky when you see them. If I was a better swimmer I'd pick up a jelly and throw it at the other competitors. |

(I'm bringing my camera) Goggin - Welcome to BT and to Kure Beach! Is this your first race? It's my first ocean swim. Thanks for the info on the jellys and skates. I saw a big jelly out there a couple of weeks ago. But I will be swimming far enough back in the pack that they will be cleared out by the time I come through!!! I just made up my mind that I'm going to ignore whatever comes at me (be it waves or jellys) and just swim. |

New user 30 | Subject: RE: Kure Beach Double Sprint Ginger, I would love to come eat with ya'll but already have a previous engagment. Plus, when I go to the Bowl I can't control how much I eat. I just can't stop eating. It's so good and a matter of getting the most for my $. Poll: How many of you will be putting your shoes on in the transition area versus waiting till after the kiddie pool. I have been told to take a small bucket into the transition area to rinse there. What do you think? |

New user 30 | Subject: RE: Kure Beach Double Sprint maria40nc: This is my 2nd tri. My first was the WAC last April, it was a pool swim and I finished in 1hr 28 min. I am a little nervous about swimming with a bunch of people but I figure I'll be far enough back that it won't be too big of a problem. I am not in quite as good of shape as I was in April, and with the extra swim and with 2 extra transitions I am hoping to finish in 1 hr 45 min this time. But realistically I'll just be happy if I finish. The 2nd swim really scares me. Just from the stand point of cramping. When practicing my bricks I have cramped up a few times after getting in the cooler water, following a run. At least I can just float on my back and the current will eventually get me there. :-) |

70 | Subject: RE: Kure Beach Double Sprint It was a lot of fun! I didn't do as well as I had hoped, but first swim that long, first OWS, first F1, etc., etc. It was a great race and wonderful weather, and of course, tons of friendly faces. The one thing I did really like about the whole F1 style was getting back in the ocean after that nice hot run. |

And Pete fussed ALL the way home about you beating him by 4 seconds! So you have bragging rights on that one. I was ok with what I did for a first beach start ocean swim. I can see I need more practice going out and coming in. Once out there, it wasn't bad. I did have a little trouble sighting the buoys because of the waves, but stayed pretty straight on course. I just need to keep doing my drills to improve my speed. |

New user 30 | Subject: RE: Kure Beach Double Sprint I should have just gone back to sleep when I woke up 45 min later than I planned. Didn't have time to warm up like I would like to and paid the price. First push off of the sand to dive under a wave I felt a twinge in my right hammy. By the time I got to the first buoy I couldn't kick and had to breastroke the whole swim. Had to walk/slow jog the run and the bike wasn't much better. I kept waiting for someone to tell me I was too slow and I had to quit. But since they didn't I kept moving. Not to proud of finishing 290 out of 291 but quite proud for just finishing givin the circumstances. |

Veteran 266 Carolina Beach | Subject: RE: Kure Beach Double Sprint GTS, I actually remember you from the race on Sunday. You were right in front of me in the beach transition area if I was standing with my back to the ocean, I was closer to the water in the first row and you were in the last row (I think). I remember the aquaphor suit. I was wearing a red, white, and blue jersey for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. I remember we spoke about something very briefly right before I headed down for my wave start. I hope you all enjoyed your time here in Carolina Beach and don't hesitate to come back and visit again. As a resident here I would strongly suggest you come back in late August/early September. The crowds die down significantly and the weather is post-card perfect and the water temps are still nice and warm. September is also the best time of year for surfing if you were inclined to give it a shot. PS- the race was a blast and I beat my time last year by 8 minutes!! I think it had something to do with not getting a flat this year, but it still feels good to say I improved by 8 minutes! Edited by Wojo14 2010-06-28 2:52 PM |
