Subject: RE: Reston training questions In terms of biking and running trails, there are many in and around Reston neighborhoods. However, the Washington & Old Dominion trail ("the W&OD" as it's called ) is the a great resource and, for me at least, is my default starting place for either rides or long runs. If you are working in Reston you will undoubtedly be close to the W&OD. Here is some info on the W&OD trail: http://www.wodfriends.org/http://www.nvrpa.org/park/w_od_railroadThe Reston Bike Club has regular rides I believe on Tuesdays and Thursdays after work and they start in Reston. I've not ridden with them but I've heard from many their rides are great. http://www.restonbikeclub.org/I'm going to let others weigh in on pools as I'm not that familiar with the offerings in Reston proper. However, there are Fairfax County RECenters fairly close by which have pools open for lap swimming (I swim at Cub Run RECenter in Chantilly, but that's not all that close to Reston ). Here's the general RECenter link http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/wp-recenter.htmre: bike rentals - I've not looked into that and don't really know. The Performance Bike Shop in Reston may be a good resource to find out who might do bike rentals, though. http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_500028_-1_600018__ There are lots of gyms in the area, too. I actually teach a Spinning class at Gold's Gym "Clocktower" location in nearby Herndon if you are interested (it's Thursday's at 6:30pm ). Best of luck! |
