while riding or running?  Open road, MUP, you name it!

I've been reading the Open Letter to Squirrels thread, and there is a Colorado thread about grasshoppers on one of our MUP's as well.

Let's hear about those really bizarre sights.  I'm not talking about those dehydration hallucinations either.

I saw a woman with a jogging stroller, pulled off to the side of an MUP the other day.....breasfeeding!  Almost missed the next turn.

I bought mirror for my bike and for a brief moment I saw this 46 year old man in a bike helmet.

I have always been baffled by the number of panties, single shoes and brake pads on the shoulders of roads and highways. The first two I can sort of see a scenario for but I have a hard time seeing how a pair of brake pads fall out of a car's caliper.
Various road kill have been interesting including toads perfectly flat but with a recognizable outline, the worse was a calf, with a tail wind the odor followed me a couple of miles, and lots of unrecognizable animals, so far none wearing lycra.
A plague of grasshoppers in Texas one year, the constant crunch, and ping of their kamikaze leaps into the spokes.
Once near Homer Louisiana, but no where near a home as far as I can tell I saw a complete living room set, arranged on the grassy shoulder-sofa, love seat, coffee table end tables and lamps.
At a crit in Natchez Ms a drunk wondered into the middle of the Cat 4 field, amazing no one went down!

The nursing mama isn't the weird to me, but I also used to breastfeed my youngest during stroller aerobics.  I sat down to do it, but I have a friend who would keep doing the class while nursing!  He was her fifth, so I think she was just better at multi-tasking.

The strangest thing I've seen was probably when my brother and I were on a run and saw a deer leg on the side of the road.  No sign of the rest of its body!

On the same day, two ladies out walking with giant parrots sitting on their shoulders. About five miles apart from each other.

I swam over 2 manatees the other day. Being a good kind husband and knowing my wife was about 100 yrds behind I of course rolled over to enjoy the show. She looked up when she saw me stopped. One of the manatees stuck its nose out of the water 5 feet in front of her. Thankfully it was near the end of our swim. I was laughing to hard to go any farther. 3 more strokes and it would have been a head on colision.

On my bike, saw a mountain lion about 75 yards ahead of me.  I stopped and watched it wander away after it gave me a bored look.

On several occasions, including twice this week, wild turkeys having a bit of a munch on the roadside have been obstacles. They don't seem very interested in bike riders.

Yesterday on my ride I saw a bunch of land crabs, no bigger than a half dollar, in the road. I was swerving all over the place to miss them.

Not all that strange around here- but yesterday, a family of 10 (I counted) Javelina crossed the road in front of me.  They're not generally aggressive, but you don't want to get between a parent and their baby- of which there were a few.

Saw a Gila Monster earlier this week- that's a pretty rare sighting.

I've seen turkeys too, but most of my weird sitings are the people in Central Park.  A memorable one is a guy on a Cervelo-turned-fixie.  I like the roller blading crowd too, they are to Apolo Anton Ohno what we are to Lance (totally silly looking adults in spandex)

Sounds like a recent run I was on.  Sadly I was down wind of them.  Nasty stink.

This happened to me once this week. There were about a dozen of them right there when I rounded a corner. Thankfully they were on the other side of the road. One morning run I came across a used condom and then about 3 miles later an unused tampon. Ah the joys of running in Cambridge (gag).

Interesting, around here the rollerbladers come in two versions.  There is the recreational stick leggers, and then there are the hockey players.  We don't get any of the speed skating types.

For me Turkeys are the norm, but I saw a Swan a couple of weeks ago.

Wow, where do I start?

The lady-of-the-night who may or may not have been of apparent gender (and was perhaps mistaken about mine, who knows?) running after my BIKE propositioning me.

Oh, I used to run and ride on Venice Beach, so name it -- woman in a meat bikini, dark oiled bodybuilders in gold thongs eating fire, this guy who used to ride a tricycle built with car tyres riding in a Speedo with a parrot on his handlebars, Chinese acrobats, really any performer imaginable ...

Oh yes, the dead stuffed (real) monkeys on top of the two-storey-high bamboo poles with windmills on the top that moan in the wind, and cut to moan even more ...

As I passed this house out in the country I noticed what I thought were two dogs coming across the yard chasing after me. I nearly fell of the bike laughing when I noticed one of them was a little potbelly pig running as hard as he could grunting all the way. I did have enough left to out run the pig. I looked back and saw both the pig and the dog standing in the road having given up the chase.

Not really strange, but humorous, there were two larger breed dogs "stuck" together at a 90 degree angle from each other in the middle of the road during a bike ride. And talk about smells, I was passed by an empty dump truck with no rear tail gate that wreaked of death. That distinct odor of rotting flesh and it took a good half mile before I could no longer smell it. It was extremely nauseating!

Mostly animals, live or dead - cats, dogs, rabbits, squirrels, snakes, frogs, the standard ones.  Then we have some turtles (far away from water source), wild turkeys, one as tall as my bike wheel - though I saw an ostrich.  Past horse farms and llama farms, and in there was a real ostrich.

Once saw a black pet pig - I think it was in Quebec City.

One time flying down some steep hill in Hong Kong, past some elderly morning exericisers, who shoke their heads mumbling "these youngsters are nuts".  Oh, on the same ride saw a Hong Kong democracy movement person being interviewed by news reporters at a parking lot.

And the strangest, also in HK, this lady, during my morning run.

That's a "meat wagon."   Farmers call them when they have livestock that don't make it for whatever reason.

My uncle had to call one when the tree he was cutting down fell on a cow.  He said all you could see were ribs sticking out from either side of the tree.   ew.   He said the meat wagon driver said: "I ain't never seen NUTHIN like that."

On a bike ride, I saw a discarded Mountain Dew can on the side of the road with a... um... prophylactic device hanging out of it.  I thought to myself "I know their slogan is 'do the Dew', but that's taking it a bit too far."

Strangest: A Mennonite woman on an ATV.

The cutest:  triplet fawns bouncing through a soybean field. When they stopped to look at me (with a lot of suspicion in their little brown eyes), all I could see were their little heads above the soybeans!  It was so darned cute!
