Pre-race routine:

Drove to Burlington with Ron R. Picked up packet and chip, set up transition area. Drank 8 oz water and 4 oz of Accelerade.
Event warmup:

About 10 minutes of stretching out in the water.
Swim
  • 15m 36s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt as though there was a bit of a current against us until we turned left around the 2nd bouy. After that turn, felt as though I swam the race I wanted.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

Lost about :20 seconds, forgot to put on my race belt, and had to struggle with it while standing at the bike mount area while holding bike.
What would you do differently?:

Only put on the race belt at the transition area.
Bike
  • 44m 59s
  • 15 miles
  • 20.01 mile/hr
Comments:

Aerobars really helped!
What would you do differently?:

I need to move my seat up higher. I feel like I am burning my quads out too quickly because the seat is too low. I'm sure I'll get more power too,...so watch out!!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

Walked to the transition, trying to give my legs a chance to loosen up. Took my time in drinking some Accelerade and water.
What would you do differently?:

Just run with the bike. I could have cut :20-:30 off my time.
Run
  • 26m 51s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Overall, I'm very happy with this run! I actually felt good after the first mile or so. Ran away from some guys for the first time!

What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Post race
Warm down:

Light stretching, drank water and ate some fruit and cookies.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training. But I keep improving. Had I swam my regular race, I would've cut 2 minutes off my time taking me to 1:28:00. That's a great time for my first year! I am very happy with myself on how I've improved.

Event comments:

Great race. And again,...I'll be back next year.

We must have been neck and neck the whole time... pretty close to my race and I had issues with my race belt as well! I didn't plan on wearing it on the bike but found i hanging there while running out of T1, then I couldn't get it on and hold my bike up like you!

Congrats on a great race!

Dude, for the first year you are jamming! Last year I did not know my bike COULD go 20 mph much less ride it that fast myself! Those were some great times you posted. Fantastic race.

Thanks for all the encouragement! I've got the UNC Wellness Super-Sprint this weekend, and my goal is to really burn it up!
I DO feel great about my results for this being my first year. It keeps getting better, and the one thing I would say about triathlon is...
you are rewarded for the training time you put in.
I started from scratch in August of last year at 31,when I first started swimming and trying to run. I was musular, but out of cardio-shape and weighed 220lbs at 16% bodyfat. I hadn't run in 10+ years, and never lap swam or road a bike other than when I was a child. I'm now 192lbs (6'3") at 11% bodyfat, so for me to get this kind of feedback from you guys, really makes me feel great! Thanks again, it means more than you know.
