Whats the best type of swag you received at an event in 2010?

I didn't race much this year, so I guess it's a toss up between the free swim lesson from my gym's indoor tri, or the beach towel from B2B.

That beach towel surprised me. I've started getting used to a bag full of 5X7" ads with some 10% discount cards, a swim cap and race numbers as the only swag and they give us a HUGE towel. Cool! That they also took the timing chip back and gave us the neoprene chip strap to keep was a pleasant surprise as well.

I actually let them keep my strap.  I didn't bother to look to see if it said 2010 on it or not, I was just thinking that since I already have one, they could maybe use mine again next year.  It's not like I can wear two chips at a time anyhow.    But I was really surprised when they asked if I wanted to keep the strap.  It was a nice offer.

Swag is pretty uncommon at bike races, but at a race in Portugal this year, I got bottles of porto (port wine) and vinho spumanti (Portuguese sparkling wine that is produced in the region where we raced) in my registration bag.   I thought that was pretty cool.

Tough call, I've gotten great stuff at most of my races...

TriGirl we got tech tees, socks, stickers, pens, chocolates, and a towel
CapTex got tech tees, socks, hat, 2 waterbottles
Bridgeland got a really cool design t (in women sizes so its not a tent!), and an awesome head sweats hat
Toughest 10K run we got tech tees, socks and hats
Katy Triathlon got two t's - one tech tee and one regular which I liked
Plus other runs I did I got at least two more tech tees...hardly ever have to buy workout tops!
Really looking forward to RunGirl 13.1 - we get hats and a medal with a removable charm that I can't wait to add to a necklace I wear.

Plus general gels, coupons, bars, etc.

Two of my races this year had standout SWAG...

San Francisco Tri at Alcatraz (I am making the assumption that with your screen name, this is your event - if that is the case, GREAT job on all facets of the race - well run event in every aspect!) - Duffel bag, socks, tech tee, dry clothes sling bag, finisher's medal, and $20 finisher's jacket - favorite items are the duffel and finisher's jacket

Silverman - Backpack, visor, tech tee, finisher's medal - favorite item is the backpack

The best swag I got this year was from a running race- the thanksgiving day Flying Feather 4 Miler:  Long sleeve tech shirt, gloves, hat, sample of aquaphor (with the tag line "At Mile 10 it's not people that rub you the wrong way"), and at the finish line a bottle of wine.  Not bad for $35 race fee.

Only did a couple of races this year - one tri and one running race.  The SWAG I got was when I helped out at IM WI and picked up one of their bags since they had some leftover, and picked up a massage ball for free when they were throwing those out at the volunteer dinner.

I got a pretty nice bike jersey at the Big Foot Triathlon and a running fleece vest at the Bucktown 5k....both are events run by RAM racing out of Chicago; they like to brag about their swag bags. These two events were both run fairly well, but I've heard some of their other events aren't as good, and people complain that they need to take focus off the swag and put it on the race itself.

Wow.  you guys got some great swag.
I'll I ever get is a T-shirt and some energy bars.

Actually- the Dueces Wild tri had a beanie cap (wore it this morning).  That, other than tech shirts, is the best I got this year.

MiniMussel in Geneva, NY gave out chocolate at packet pickup and had some cool running gloves in the reusable tote bag.

Park City Mossman Oly in Bridgeport, CT had towels soaked in ice water that they gave everyone at the finish.

At WS 100 we got Mountain Hard Wear hydration style pack without the bladder, pair of Ijinji socks, a fleece pullover, moisture wicking running shirt, Moeben arm warmers, a WS 100 running hat with a small led light above the bill(not really useful for running) and a bunch of small samples of sponsors products. I think that is it.

Expensive to enter but with everything you get and great aid stations it's still a value. I think it's still only about half of what I paid for IMWI 2011.

I see at this years Pikes Peak Road Runners Club Winter series you get two pairs of running gloves(Merino wool and duramax) and a pair of winter series pint glasses. four race series $50.Not a bad deal $12.50 a race.

The only thing I've ever gotten from races were t shirts, some tech but mostly cotton. I'm planning on doing two races this January with awesome swag: one gives you a hot chocolate mug as you cross the finish line to go inside the building and pour you some hot chocolate. The other gives beanies.

Most of mine were Tech Tees (Race on the Base, Redondo Beach, and Tri-Rock), but Tri-Rock had some nice finisher medals, water bottles in the swag bag (which my son uses for soccer), and a license plate frame. Of course this was also put on by Competitor Magazine

At USAT age group Nationals everyone, even the slower folks like myself, got a softside cooler/bag with tech t-shirt, hat, race belt, tri magazines, coupons and other misc. small stuff.  Finishers gift was a fleece blanket with a backing on it so it could be used like a picnic blanket.  Best swag of this year's races.

The Garrett County Gran Fondo offered Garmin 500s for those that raised over $500 for their charity. The Garmins were loaded with all of the bike routes. Pretty cool and I also loved the tee shirt.

Oh, how could I forget this special mention?  I received this surprise SWAG in the mail of:

1). free membership to a tri-club that would have been cool to have checked out but was too far away (I suspect it's close to a 1000 miles away, or so)
2). a really cool tech shirt of the tri-club
3). 10% percent off discount card for the year from the club.

If I say the person's name, he may come up here and kick my azz, so, I'll just say THANK YOU, you BIG LUG!  You know who you are.

Aside from the usual stuff (coupons, gel samples, energy bar samples), the best thing I've ever brought home from a race was a 9' noble fir Christmas tree (this was a week prior to Christmas).

Adults got full sized trees, the kids doing the fun run got smaller trees to take home. This was in addition to the standard issue t-shirt, goodie bag and finisher's medals for all.

All for the low low entry fee of $25. Needless to say, I'll be doing this race again next year, as these trees were great quality and definitely worth $80-90 on the tree lot. This was the Winter Solstice Christmas Tree 5-mile run at El Dorado Park for anyone local, they do a similar race there for the summer solstice but instead of a tree you get a watermelon.
