Subject: BT St. Anthony's 2006 Signup - Mark Your Calendar

Signup begins Dec 1, 2005 at 9am EST.  I know its early, but mark your calendar now for the best event of the year.  Get up early, set your browser to http://www.satriathlon.com/ and get registered.  The 2005 event sold out in 24 hours.

The event was an absolute blast this year (2005) and will be the BT Triathlon Season kick-off for 2006.  This race sets the standard for all triathlons, its first class, well organized, and in a beautiful location (St. Petersburg, FL).  The course is flat and fast.  All of us who attended last year vowed to return better, faster, and stronger.

Hope to see you there.

How close is this to Gulf Coast (panama city half)? They are not back to back weekends are they?

I want to do this one but travelling to FL 2 weekends in a row is rough.

I did both races this year (2005) and they were 2 weeks apart, which was very doable.  I don't know where they will fall on the calendar this year.  St. A's is April 28-30th, 2006.  I didn't see a 2006 date for Gulf Coast.

Ok, hopefully they're smart enough to do that again this year. I can't spend over a week down there if they were back to back! No vacation time due to too many races!

Thanks for the reminder Karl. I knew it sold out quick, but didn't realize I needed to be locked and loaded at 8:59am. Looks like Florida is going to be my second home in 2006

Even though I have a place to stay in Tampa if I need to, I'll still be in Northern Ireland for this one..boo. I feel like I'm going to miss a lot of races because I'm abroad.

I think if you get a bike box, you can just check it on your flight. Not sure about cost, though.

We'll be there again this year!!!  Karl put it best...this is a 1st class event.  Lots of people, lots of wave starts, swim in the bay (with the dolphins...right Coredump)...was wetsuit legal this year (72.1 deg F), and like Karl said....it is FLAT, FLAT, FLAT!!!!  They have a pretty cool expo there as well.

Did ya catch the we up there....that's right...BonBon is doing it too!

Some of us that showed up early went out and did some open water swims together, and Wendi's BnB prerace pasta dinner was awesome!  If you don't like the Oly distance, there's also the Meek and Mighty tri the day before (1 mile run, 5 mile bike, 250y swim).

And come to think of it, I most likely won't be racing, but I should be there with a )hopefully) large contingent of TNT triathletes, since I'll be coaching again next year.

Jean, many people arrived by Friday. Saturday is packet pickup, racking bikes (mandatory).

Saturday we did a BT group swim on the race course; Saturday night we had a BT dinner (I'm sure there will be another dinner with a larger crowd). Sunday evening we had appetizers and drinks. I volunteered for the event because I had only started training 2 months earlier; 2006 I will be competing.

I met Good People - The Bostics, Sue, Wendy&Mike, Karl (Motivated), Lisa & Barry, Chris/Coredump, Christine/Lucy & Tom, Sharon/snikpos & Bob. Did I forget anyone?

You'll have a blast.

St Anthony's sounds like a good "season opener" to bear in mind.  It might be worth my while to go down there just to be able to do a tri in April.  There is still ice around on the rivers and on the roads!!!

I guess you could ride it? Seriously, some big races have bike shipment services (as in having your LBS pack your bike and ship it to the race site, where a local shop has a team of folks that reassemble and check it, and do the reverse after the race). You can also pack it yourself (or have your LBS do it) and check it with your baggage. Coasts a bit, but I think American Airlines has some sort of deal with your USAT membership.

Like Renee said, Friday is a good day to arrive.  Its amazing.  You'll see riders and runners all over the place on Friday and Saturday.  With over 3000 participants, St. Pete turns into a triathlon village for the whole weekend.  Saturday is all about getting in a practice swim, relaxing, checking in your bike and enjoying an awesome dinner with friends, new and old.

The race on Sunday is a blast.  The swim is in the calm confines of Tampa Bay, the bike is a flat and very fast course through downtown St. Pete and outlying neighborhoods.  The run is also very flat, through some very picturesque Spanish style neighborhoods.
