Just saw that temps will be in the 40's tomorrow morning. Prob not a good idea to jump in that early. Ugh....stupid weather. It was f'ing warm during my 6 mile run today and now it's cooling down. Just so close to race, don't want to risk getting sick. Ugh.

Anyways, TTT will have a supported swim next weekend on April 3rd w/full kayak support. I think there is a drop in fee of $5 for non-members? Not sure.

Pier 121 is deep enough where I have not run into any underwater brush or trees but we swim about 200 meters out from shore to the first buoy and if you dothe other buoys, they are further out. Not really a beach but shore is muddy and shallow where we climb in/out.

I'm planning on being there for my only OWS practice before Galveston! Do people normally do a brick workout (i.e. should I bring my bike and/or running shoes?).

I think most ppl will be bringing their bikes. Group ride is right after swim: A, B, C groups so there will be paces for all abilities. And yes, you can bring your shoes as well for a short run as well. I'll be doing race day simulation....again. So I'll be riding and running after OWS.

I'm in with the race sim! I'll ride a slower ride on Saturday so I still have some legs left.

I'd like to join the TTT swim on Sunday.  Do you know what time and where?  And who to contact about non-member/donation drop?

Thanks.  It looks like the first Sunday of each month.  I sent Kristen a note but do you think they would care if I showed up?  I'd throw them a donation.

Absolutely come on out. I think Kristen will be out of town but other TTT coaches will be there. Plus Tania and I will be there. She will be the once dancing a shimmy to get her wetsuit on and I will be the one pointing and laughing. Swim at 7:00 and bike at 8:00.

I'll miss the TTT OWS this weekend...doing the Fast and Furious Du.  However, I will be there for the next one.  Did I read it right...is there one the first weekend of each month?

Its hard to help you when we are rolling on the ground..

Plus to avoid people laughing at me I put my wetsuit on at home and drive up there with it on...

A lot of people came out this morning! I don't know about anybody else, but my face, arms and feet felt like blocks of ice in the water. Hope everybody got some good OWS practice in. Let's give thanks to our spotters and kayakers.....although Todd getting stuck on the lake divider didn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence for "being saved". Hey Todd, I was going to give you a hand buddy, but I was too busy rolling on the ground laughing my @ss off. Karma's a b!tch, huh?

Ha Ha Ha, pile it on I totally set myself up for it. I should have known something bad would happen to me. Trapped with the buoy line on one side and 20 mph wind pushing me into it. It took nothing but pure skill not to tip over. Karma was licking her chops to get back at me.

Of course the ENTIRE group just had to be looking that way. Couldnt have my embarrassment all by myself.

That was you?  It looked like you had no chance to get off the buoy.  We had a great time and thanks for the invite.  Nice group.  Loved the cold water.  Loved the chop. All I want is smooth glass on race day.  Practices should always be like it was on Sunday.

Ok peoples, I'm scoping out my first Olympic distance race July 17th and its OWS in Lake Ray Robert; Disco Olympic Tri. So it'll be pretty freakin' hot so the rules state no wetsuit needed, which is cool, but for now should I get one for practices, not sure the water temps. I've only done 4 sprints so far and all of them are pool swims so I don't have a wetsuit, I do have a nice de soto tri suit. Hopefully y'all can coach me through OWS rules and etiquette; I've done a lot of reading and what not so I'm going in completely blind, I'm just a hands on type of guy. Thanks

If you dont have a race that you would need a wetsuit for I wouldnt get one. You can train in the pool and get some OWS practice in May June and first part of July. You should be able to get at least 5-8 ows then and no need for a wetsuit.

Early morning is fine too.  I have access to the YMCA and also the Coppell Aquatic center (customers gave me some passes)....but would love to get outside for an OWS.  It's still too cold up in Michigan but I'm itching to get outside.
