Gooooooooood morning!

7am:  heading out for at least a 90 minute mountain bike ride
upon return:  Insanity Upper Body Strength Training.  Gotta get to work on the pecs for my Super Spartan race on July 9 Smile

Also heading to the pool today...first going to swim at least 1600m, then lounge, lounge, lounge!

Sweetest thing ever...one of the kids I'm doing the Super Spartan with (well, not really a kid, 18 year old young man--on my cross country team for 4 years) showed up last night with a dozen roses and a beautiful 'congratulations' card hand drawn (he's an amazing artist) to congratulate me on my 70.3 finish!

Happy training today!

First brick workout ever for me this morning. Started small, hilly 12 mile bike ride then a 2.7 mile jog. Gonna try a bigger one on Sunday.

Something new today, my first brick session. Riding home from work, 14.25 miles into the wind. I have to work on pace and not start out too fast, as is my tendency. Adding in a run, hopefully 3 miles in the blazing 95 degree Fl sun. I hope to get some idea of how much the transition will affect me and what I'll need to adjust in order to be better prepared.

It is time to get some work done, I hope that everyone enjoys the day, no matter what it brings.

First day of summer with my daughter home with me, we will probably walk over to the track (3/4 mile away) and she can play while I run. I might be able to talk her into getting out on the trach with me for a few laps, we'll see, she is only 5. I am trying to get her to run the one mile kids runs they have at every local 5K.

She did a 5K with my wife last fall and turned in a 1:00:00, beat my wife by 1 sec according to the official time.

2000 yards in the pool at 6:30am. Going to see the doctor about a tetanus shot and whatever else I might need before swimming in the Schuylkill for the Philly Tri. Body armor?

Hoping to run a few miles this afternoon but my son is graduating High School today and that comes first. Man I'm getting old

Mornin'!

This morning, before work, an easy 3 mile run on the TM at the Y.  The thunder outside chased me indoors.  Yup--I'm a wuss!

This coming Saturday, Quad Cities Tri!  Can't wait!

Went for my first cycle out on the open road - and did 14K (I guess that's about 8 miles). If anyone wants to have a laugh at my newbie-ness, I learned how to downshift gears (if that's what its called) but not how to shift to a higher gear - so spent the first half of my ride on the smallest cog and smallest chain ring (which I know is a no-no and made a bad clicking sound on my chain). I even stopped twice to manually move it over, but without actually using the derailleur it went right back. After the first half of my ride (where I was churning it out even downhill!!) I stopped and decided that soemthing else on the bike must control the gears. After a minute or 2 I discovered the hand brakes have anothe function!! Needless to say the second half of my ride took 50% of the time that the first half did....

I then headed straight to my LBS for a lesson on how to actually use my bike, and to make some adjustments to make my ride more comfortbale/efficient.

Thought today was big run day, but it's actually rest day. So, I'm hoping that I'll be able to get hubby to look at my derailleur and hopefully fix that.  Then big run day tomorrow...well, big for me...itty bitty for most of you!

That was a good morning! And a pleasant evening as well, it makes me happy to hear about your happiness! I swam 1650 yesterday, my longest nonstop forward crawl, a record which will last until next week when I do 1750. Today is a bike day, 14.6 miles with a short run afterwards; it's bright and sunny here in Michigan, it will be fun!

Haven't posted on the daily work-out post in months, but today's work-out merits it! With a two-month-old having recently joined our family, I've had to be extra creative in getting my sweat on:

6:30am: Full-body, free weights circuit weight train (I'm the most muscular 155lb, 6' guy in the gym)

6:55am: Easy quarter mile lap swimming.

7:30am: 14 hilly mile bike ride into work.

5:30pm-ish: 17 hilly mile bike ride home!

Happy eatings everyone!

Nice 2 hour brick this morning- 30 minutes (1450 yards) in the pool, followed by a 1 hour spin, followed by a 30 minute hill workout on the treadmill.

I'll play... 2 miles on the dreadmill at lunch. I hate it, but have nearly passed out running outside at lunch, so it has to be done.

After work a friend and I are going for a lake swim, it will be his first major OWS so I'll be following him in a kayak.. then I get to do 1750, or 45 minutes, whatever. I may get him to beat me with the kayak paddle to simulate a wave start.

I tripped over a curb while running today, about 2 blocks from my house. Lost a lot of skin on hands and one knee. Went on to do 5 miles a good half minute off normal pace and labored in the humidity. Blah.

At least I had a good swim this morning.

I'll be doing 3.5 miles this evening, but what I am really excited about is... A friend of mine heard me talking about my Sprint Tri on Sunday and started inquirying about distances, by the end of the conversation he agreed to join me for the Naperville Tri in August.  I just received a text from him and he is jumping in the pool for his first training swim.

Just got back from my crossfit workout. Short bike and run tomorrow. Then a crossfit workout and swim on thursday. Taking friday off, then my first race on saturday. Too bad the week couldn't go by a little faster!

I'm impressed by how thoughtful the 18 year old was. I am a 20 year old male and, sadly, don't think I would be that mature and supportive. Congrats to him.
