Subject: First tri under my belt! Been training for the swim for about 4 weeks got my time to an ok amount (around 11 to 12 min) and decided it was time. It was a .31 swim, 12.4 bike and a 5K trail run. Swim started out great until I peaked up and saw the rest of the crowd was about 75 feet to my left. LOL!!!! Got back on track and had a tough time getting my form and breathing dialed in but finally did after 2/3rds course was done. Swimming in a race in COMPLETELY different than training by yourself! Got out of the lake and had what was IMO an ok but not fast enough T1. On the bike.... Was doing pretty well. Course was long grades up and down and not really flat but good pavement. I think my time was around 40 min on my 20+ year old Trek. Got off and COMPLETELY cramped up in my calves and hammies to the point I could hardly even walk! NEVER did this happen like this in previous Duathlons I've done. Forced myself to slow jog and after about 1/4 mile I started to loosen up. Got a good pace going but had to watch out for the loose surface of rocks. Grass was a little long in spots and a few tree roots here and there but nothing horrible. Final time was 1:32 and I placed 67 out of a couple hundred people. They don't have the final results posted yet but overall I think I did ok for my first Tri. I'd love to get one more in before the end of the season and build from there for next year.
