OK, it's Thursday again, and that means I'm first on the posting - Thirsty Thursday... before anyone really gets their expectations up, I have no peanut butter to talk about and my love of the fairer sex will not be brought up (though both are with me still... demons I can not - or will not, shake) No ladies and no peanut butter... what else is there to talk about? Can you hear the gears churning?

Lets talk about.... uh... ummm.... ...well... I am actually holding my head in my hand, gazing at the wall, wondering what I would like to talk about besides peanut butter and women, and I am drawing a complete blank....

I could talk about Triathlons, but where is the fun in that? ...How about this, and please take me seriously, as this is no laughing matter... tonight I was attacked by a cactus.... a viscous, rabid, hateful cactus that I never saw and frankly would not even know existed if not for the several dozen arrow-like barbs sticking out of my shin. I don't know how or why, but I was on the wrong side of sharp... punished, though I did nothing wrong (that you could prove). I don't even know how or where it happened, just that it did.

  • ..I can hear you thinking, well.... if you can't remember something like that happening, you probably deserve it..., and I'm not going to argue. You're right, of course. But have you ever tried to get cactus barbs out of your flesh? For you northern people, I guess the closest I could come to describing it would be... well... I don't know...watching three full quarters of a hockey game....

  • I think the bottom line here is that there really is not a whole lot to talk about outside of peanut butter and women, but that a good ass-whooping by an angry cactus leaves a lasting impression... VIVA LA CACTUS!

I think the cactus juice went to your brain Tom!  LOL  uhmmmmm....it's friday, and there are 3 periods in a hockey game, not 4 quarters.

Stick (HAHA) to peanut butter, ok?

No, you got it wrong Tom...misery up north is suffering through a Red Sox game, especially when your field goal kicker is not healthy! Well, at least you didn't get attacked by an armadillo

Raining again...off to the club to ride the trainer and check out the babes (hope Patti's not watching).

I'm feeling better today. I had a fairly good workout last night, which helped. I actually took the time to do a 5 min warmup, stretch for 5 min, and do another 5 min warmup before I started running. Then I ran for 35 min at a 6 mi/hr pace and cooled down for 5 min. My knee pain was a lot better, especially in the beginning of the run. I iced 'em down for 10 min when I got home, too. AND I ACTUALLY WENT TO BED ON TIME! I told Hubby that my goal was to be in bed, lights out, at 9:30 pm. Nothing like setting goals, eh?

So, today I'm refreshed and listening to cds from my wedding so I'm full of sappy love feelings. And I finally broke down and bought a new dress yesterday. I managed to find one that fits in under an hour, a new record! Though I usually hate shopping and spending money on clothes, it seems easier to find stuff with a fitter body. Shopping in the misses section helped too.

Anyway, it WILL be a good day today. I plan to trek to the other gym tonight for swimming, maybe stationary biking too. BRILLIANT! :-)

Another swim workout last night. 900 yards in one shot, 1400 yards total. Felt a little awarkward at times, but had some really comfortable stretches as well. Again I am left feeling a little sluggish this morning. For some reason time in the pool leaves me more tired than running or biking.

Tonight I run, regardless of the weather. Five miles rain or shine.

What a mixed day. First I saw my wife off to Canada for the weekend at 4am. Then at 5:30 it was a 30 minute temp run. At lunch 450meters + drills. Tonight, 40 minutes spinning, and Pilates! I really hope they don't cancel Pilates this week, like last. Another month, and I'll be the Pilates instructor. :-) 8 days to Tri...

Walked 2.5 miles on the treadmill because of the pouring rain.

Have been carb loading since yesterday--love those carbs!!!
Drinking my fluids too. River Run on Sunday -- trying to beat last years time of 26:23.
Which means I have to start at a 8:30mm and go to a 8:20 or better. Wish me luck!

Good luck on your 5k Kim!Well, finally got to the gym last night. Was going to do spinning but ended up doing 1hr of weightlifting and 1hr of kickboxing. Kicking butt on the weightlifting. Did 3 sets of 20 with 66 pounds on my back in squats and barely broke a sweat. I don't know if I can add more weight to the bar. More than 70 pounds just seem so heavy to put on my neck. Then did 1hr kickboxing! Woo Hoo! Love that Turbo Kick! Let me tell ya'll it was about 70 degrees last Sunday when I worked in my garden, nurtured my plants, planted new grass. And guess what? Last night about 12 inches of snow fell!!!! What the *&%?So I haven't been able to get in an outside bike ride and my first tri is in three weeks!!!!!! Ugggghhhh!!!! Try to go swim tonight. Will do 1600 m. Have a good weekend all! Oh and Tom, "JUST SAY NO!" that's all I got to say. Listen to Nancy Regan and you'll feel better! Ovetta.

Talk about kicking someone when he's down! I will be glad to see Fiesta in my rear-view mirror... I'm getting to old for this. I was wounded, it was still my Thursday night and no self-respecting south Texan would ever admit to knowing anything about hockey. Ice belongs in a glass.

Max, I hope your field goal kicker gets better soon....

    Happy Friday!
I'm very new and still shy about posting, but anyway I did my first brick this morning, 800m swim with a block between the legs, followed by a run on the treadmill. Made it just over 2 miles at 6mph, then I had to fastwalk the last mile. I guess I should have ate before going to the gym, any thoughts? I've been nervous about eating then immediatly swimming.

Hey watch those Iowa jokes - Q: "What's the best thing to come out of Iowa? " A: "I-35."    Q: "What's IOWA stand for?"  "Idiots Only Wandering Around."  There's a heck of a lot more to Iowa than corn - we got ethanol guys

Anyway - took today off to swim (got in 1/4 mile this am), bike and run.  Some hills today on the bike and then a six mile run - well maybe 4 - or 3.1 - yah that's it = 3.1 - that's the sprint dist. for my first event.

Have a great Friday - easy on the party hardy tonight.

Well, if you're concerned about getting swimming cramps and drowing, don't be. It's an urban legend. See here: http://www.snopes.com/spoons/oldwives/hourwait.htm.

I usually don't exercise early enough to have this dilemma, but I'd probably try to eat something that's light and easily digestible so it doesn't end up coming right back up. Play around with different foods to see what works. I'd start with a banana and see how that does you.

Just returned from a week in Disney World with the three kids and parents. No training for a week! But we did walk a lot. Felt weird not having any cardiovascular exercise. Hopefully, it won't set me back too far.

This morning ran an easy 4.5 miles and will do a long (1500 + yd) slow swim after work.  Will try to get on the bike tomorrow.  Quick sprint race coming up on May 16 (400yd swim - 7 mile bike - 2 mile run).  Training for a race on June 19 (1/2 mile swim - 17 mile bike - 5 mile run).
