Last year was the inaugural IMAZ and it was a VERY windy day.  I live in Arizona and am doing the race this year-the wind last year was atypical and I am hoping for calmer wind this year...  It has not yet sold out which is fairly rare for mdot races.  I would recommend it as a first IM from what I've read and from talking to other IM-experienced folks.

Arizona would be a good one, however, for those of us who live in cold climates, it's very hard to ride those long distances in the winter. Someone told me Montreal, although it's not an Ironman, but an Iron distance. Thoughts?

Once again......here are three Iron Distance races that are late in the year, great for those of us who can't train as much during the winter months.

The easiest Iron Distance I'm thinking of is The Ottawa Iron Distance. The bike and run are as as flat as a pancake.

Check it out here....

I'm trying to the half IM at this event. I may not make the bike cut off but that doesn't even phase me. It the attempt that counts for me. I don't even care if I come in last.

I was also thinking about the Steelhead 70.3 1/2 IM. Anyone have any feedback on that one. I like the fact that the water is only 5-8 feet deep and close to shore!

Great Attitude TimmyMay!!!

This is my third yr/attempt to finish IMWI. My first year I missed the bike cutoff by 7 minutes...Though I did not hear the immortal words from Mike Reilly..."You are an IronMan", I consider anyone who puts in the months of training, and "toes the line" an Ironman. If you make it to the start line and leave everything out there, YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!

Because it is all about the Journey, not the destination!

Good luck!

I did the my frist ( and only to date) sprint distance there last year.  It is a great place for you support team to watch you race. Grandstand in front of the rowing basin lets them watch the swim and run portion of the event.  A short 2min walk over to the track lets them watch you on the bike. You may be chomping athte bit by the time you get off the bike, things don't change much after the second time around, but there are lots of peopleto give you encouragement as you ride. People that I have talked to said that it is one of the best events to set a PR.   I had a great time and will be doing a race there this year as well.
