Good question. I had thought that I would take my bike stuff (shoes, helmet, glasses, bottle) with me in the morning in the shuttle over from T2 to T1 rather than leave it overnight. I am going to prepare it all today and if it looks like others are leaving it today, I might change my plan and leave it, too. As long as I can cover it with a towel so that it doesn't get all dewy and wet...

Then tomorrow a.m., after parking and setting up T2 (running shoes and race belt with number), I guess I would hop on the shuttle with only my trisuit and some flip-flops on my feet.

I don't plan to leave anything but my bike overnight tonight. My helmet and bike shoes will come with me on the bus tomorrow morning.

I may have two plans as well.  The race logistics says "use the gear bag provided to you at Packet Pickup to store any gear you will be leaving in T1 (wetsuits, bike shoes, etc)".  I had though about leaving everything in T1 overnight in that bag beside my bike.  That way I don't have anything to bring over in the morning except my fuel on the bike.  Otherwise, it seems like we will have to carry it all with us on the shuttle (wetsuit, helmet, shoes, goggles, race belt.... )

Not sure I like this two separate transitions business so far....  :[  I am already in Charleston, so hoping my plan will become more clear over breakfast!

Hmmm...  Ok well I guess I'll pack everything now before going to packet pickup today and play it by ear.  I'm trying to get there as close to 2 as possible I'll post any comments here for the late arriving folks.

Did anyone notice the PDF linked to the event website schedule page entitled "Event Weekend Logistics"? Scroll down to the bottom of the page and there is a link.

It looks like it is full of helpful info!

Not too convinced on the security at the transition site, no police that I could see and no one checking people as they come and go. I will be surprised if those gear bags can fit my wetsuit after the swim. I did leave everything for tomorrow but I'll give a bag with most of it to DW before the swim. I asked how they were differentiating in the morning to make sure athletes were only ones in transition and they didn't really have an answer.

Lights on the bike area and cops watching people......guess as long as you don't walk out of there with a bike they won't bother you.  If someone really wanted to, they could steal components....but i don't see that happening.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!  Had a little freakout incident.....skewer broke at 6:45 pm.  Bike shop closed at 7....they gave me one....nice guys (I tipped them of course).  Ready to race my meager sprint and then watch the halfers come in.  The campground is nice....much better than expected.

Hey racers! How did everyone do today?

Here's my quicky synopsis of the day:

I was so nervous in the morning and felt like I had surely forgotten something. By the time my wave started, I was fretting and wondering to myself "why do I do this??", but I felt fine as soon as I got in the water (which was not too cold at all). Transition 1 was ok and the bike went fine. T2 was a catastrophe as someone had racked right over my stuff and there was absolutely no room on my rack left. A volunteer came over to help me rack my bike, but I still had to gather my shoes and got a little flustered. The run was fantastic! I started off slow in mile 1, built it up in mile 2 and hung in there for mile 3. Finished in 1:30:xx which was good enough for AG 3rd. All in all, lots of fun!

Quick question - was the 5k short?? Did anyone have a garmin on?

I'll write up a race report in the morning - off to dinner at a friends house now. Congratulations to all of you!!

First 70.3 and I finished ! 5:40. Second half of the run was like death. Could not digest anything today. Thankfully the weather held up for everyone!

Yes, it was short. I had it at 2.99 miles.

It was a fun race. I'm happy with my time 20sec would have put me on the podium but I'm OK with that. I heard alot of people say they thoight they we're forgetting something I think it was due to the two transitions. My only complaint was the half sprint bike turn around. It was a little confusing and caused a slow down as we tried to seperate.

Congratulations to everyone!!  Sitting at the campground about to light up a fire and continue the relaxation.

Melanfi......WAY TO GO!!!!  Congratulations.    Thought I had the Novice category won and then they told me that since I had done Columbia that I was no longer a Novice.   Guess its a once and graduate with Setup.....this was my first OWS. Busted for sandbagging on my second event!!

I will be back next year....great event. The campground is great....just got back from a nature walk with the kids.

Seemed like a good race to me, I had a blast as well.  Fell just short of podiuming for the relay but I think I got my friend hooked on the tri experience!

Good job to everyone out there!

Very happy with my first half.  The bike was fast this year and the cloud cover helped the run as well.  8 guys in my age group (M40-44) went sub 4:40!  That's the big league boys.

Well done everyone! I was 1st in 40-44 AG. Still can't believe it. 4:26. Ghost won the 45-49 too! What a perfect day (minor complaints only) on a great course. Now let me resume tending to my blistered feet.

Congrats, everyone! We def got lucky with the weather! Overall a very friendly course, and definitely the most relaxing start/finish line music I've ever experienced? I finished to the band playing Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. hahaha
