Swim
Comments: Typical swim for me. Passed one and got held up by a slow swimmer on the last 50m. What would you do differently?: still working on my swim performance. Transition 1
Comments: I decided to wear another jersey over my tri top and some arm warmers to help with the cool weather. Rain force me to bag up my gear. It slowed me down but at least my gear was not full of water. The guy beside me had a small plastic storage container to protect his gear. Make have to steal his idea. Trotted out in my cleats and mounted the bike well. Bike
Comments: First time racing my Cervelo tri bike. I took it easy because of the wet roads. Better safe than sorry. The extra clothing helped keep the wind off me. I was a bit chilly but not too bad. Feet were toughly wet. The same shoes that vent so well also let all the water in also. What would you do differently?: may change gearing for next year. The hills worked me out pretty good coming back into town. My bike has a standard crank and a 11-25 cassette. Transition 2
Comments: Got behind some slow traffic after the dismount so i had to walk to the rack. Again, gear was bagged up so that slowed me down a bit. What would you do differently?: Maybe get speed laces for my shoes. Run
Comments: Typical rubber legs off bike. ran slow down the hill and off to the trail. After going under the Rivermont Bridge, my knees started to hurt. Did a walk/run for the next mile. Started running again about the last mile. Did a slow run up the hill and down to the finish. Never run out of cardio but the knee pain really cut my pace. My 5k times are around 29-30min. What would you do differently?: need more running work. I'll try to add more bricks to my training. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Was disappointed in my run time. Event comments: was surprised that after the race, the organizers didn't do any bike security. Other events I have done had people to match your race number to your bike number to deter stolen bikes. I hate to think anyone would steal a $5,000 bike (not mine btw) but it does happen. I would never leave my bike unlocked while out on a 5K run. Last updated: 2012-04-02 12:00 AM

Pack the gear the night before. Woke up at 5:00. Ate two waffles, banana, and two cups of coffee. Drove to Lynchburg and prayed it would not rain today. Light sprinkles most of the day but not too bad. Set up bike and gear at transition. Scouted out the pool area and waited for the start. My swim time was 9:56 so i milled around and watched the bikes take off.
None.
