I'm really looking forward to this race.

 - I really love racing the Mountain Man Events in Flagstaff

- I've done the HIM once and th OLY 3 times, but never done the sprint

- I haven't done a sprint in a long time

- My sister and bro-in-law will be racing with me. it'll be his first triathlon

- no big hill at 8 miles on the bike and no big hill to run up either!

This is the only sprint distance I seem to do each year now - and it is a fun race.  As you said, no 15% grade hill on the bike, and no run up the hill towards Marshall Lake (it is much more fun to turn around RIGHT when you get to the Marshall Lake hill road - mocking it until August when it will have its revenge).

The water is a comfortable 72ish for this race - enough to go without a wetsuit, but as always, if wetsuits are legal, I am in one!

Just get to the lake early on race morning - the road and parking can be a bit frustrating if you are a last-minute 'arriver.'

For those who plan to race the Mtn Man Oly or 70.3 in August, this is a great warm up, as it gets you acclimated to the thinner air (most recognizable while swimming - in my opinion), and if you have the juice after the race, you can ride out to the big hill and back (roughly 20-25 miles round trip), and you can always go run the Marshall Lake hill (but why?).

I haven't done a sprint in 5 years. I was thinking of doing this one to prepare for the Boulder 70.3 I'm doing in August, but do you guys think a sprint distance will really do any good? I'd do the Olympic, but that's after Boulder, so there's no point.

Adela - I think any race does good.  However, if on your training plan you have more in store for this particular weekend, I would opt for your training regimen rather than the race.  However, if you want to race, then join up for a ride (25mi or so) afterward - that is my current plan.  The back-end ride will include the big hill on Lake Mary Rd, which should be good training for Boulder and their well-known hill.

I think that I'll do the Half Ironman at MM as a practice for SOMA, my A race for HIM this year.

Going well, thanks!  Last week of PT so hopefully I can start adding in some pool time next week.  Range of motion is doing great with just the smallest bit of comfort issues at the very limits of extension/rotation.

I can't wait to get out of this heat and up into the cool pines of Flagstaff. Although it was 84 yesterday in Flag - hot during the day, but to be able to sit outside in the evening.....hurry up tomorrow
