Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

ride to packets and transition, eat rest of breakfast 'cause we were up so friggin' early we were in transition start-1.5 hours
set up transition, hangout, potty, then walk to swim start
Event warmup:

swim back'n' forth a few times getting feel for the suit---it's been a while
Swim
  • 18m
  • 875 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

glassy to start before the first wave, forgot how water likes to skip happily into my mouth when I breath during OWS, little trouble keeping straight line felt like I was struggling against my suit a bit until comfortable about 2/3 way thru
What would you do differently?:

buy a wetsuit to practice OWS more
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

sat down to take off of heels, little confusion as to what to don when
What would you do differently?:

practice my transitions so it's muscle memory rather than having to think about it
Bike
  • 40m
  • 10 miles
  • 15.00 mile/hr
Comments:

a good bike for me, came in under what I imagined
really dislike beating a LOT of people out of the water then listening to everybody, their mom, AND grandmothers announcing their passing me
What would you do differently?:

get some bike specific training
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

chatting with The Man as we were in T2 together, puff inhaler, had to pee, on to run
What would you do differently?:

again with the muscle memory rather than having to think about what needs to go where, though it was smoother than T1
Run
  • 40m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

started okay, then breathing/panic attack troubles started and kept happening off & on throughout, almost stopped completely until AngelJeannette assisted me by "dragging" me out of my mental state and my physical stall
What would you do differently?:

stop the panicky stuff
Post race
Warm down:

walking around, chilly water, little ice bath for feet, yoga sretches.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training plan and lack of training due to various legitimate reasons and then some plain ole' laziness

Event comments:

a good local race with 250 participants this year

Congrats! Great swim! That water was cold which made it hard to "feel" the water with each swim stroke. I had no sense of how fast i was going and my suit felt constructing as well. That's a respectable bike spilt! IMHO, If you want to get faster, find a group to ride with. There's nothing like riding with faster riders to improve your game. Also, Way to hang tough through the breathing issues on your run! Good luck in you next event

Nice job! I am thinking this might be a good season opener for me in the future. So nice to read first hand experiences!

Sorry about the "panic attack".  That does not sound like any fun at all.  But way to work through it...nice job!
