"Honey, if completing an Ironman is important to you, I will support you all the way."

She actually said it.  Holy Moly, she actually said it.  Without her support, I would never even think about registering.  3 little kids at home and she still said it!

Now, to only make sure I am in that 10 minute window of at large registrations that get through online.

I think my journey to IMAZ 2013 began about 15 minutes ago.

No turning back now.

Funny, for my wife it's more of a monthly thing...

For registration, be ready as soon as registration opens, and don't bother filling in all of those stupid questions. Just fill in what's required and pay.

You guys are both lucky.  My wife is always cold (toward a full IM, at least ).  I'm going to have to spend all of 2013 stockpiling brownie points to hope for a shot at a 140.6 in 2014.

Ditto.  Building up a post count won't help training.

Tell your wife, there are a lot of guys that think she looks pretty hot, and they have never seen a picture of her. Smile  I'm not trying to be disrespectful, I just think there is nothing more attractive to a husband than a wife that supports him (and vice versa).

Good luck and hopefully I can be there in 2014 (I want to wait until I age up).

That's great! Why doesn't she register too. My wife and I are also doing IMAZ next year. Volunteering this year to make sure we get in. The only draw back to having your mate do IM is twice the money....that's a big drawback, but we love it. AZ will be our 2nd IM. Good Luck.

Considering she has no desire to attempt the couch to 5K plan, I don't see an IM in her future.  I hope I can register without being a volunteer.  That would bum me out.  If I don't get in, I may look at the Foundation price too.  That and a a new tri bike, I think it's time for a loan.

Have fun in AZ.  This event looks awesome!

It's posts like these that make me thankful I have no ball and chain. I can be as crazy about training as I want to, so long as I can still make it to and perform at work.

Great to hear that you got the OK. Now GTFO and get training!

I'm lucky my girlfriend is very supportive about this hobby of mine. Then again we have no children and she's in school and working so hardly notices me gone now. I'm in the same boat hoping to catch a small registration window for IMFL this year. It's tough spending the money on races and "toys" knowing she's secretly keeping a tally while still waiting for that ring Tongue out

Wow, awesome! I can't imagine my husband saying something like that, me thinks you better register ASAP, just in case there's buyers remorse on her end Wink! Good luck, hope you get in!

Great attitude dude with you not willing to go for it without her blessing.  There are too many "triathlon widows" out there who have not signed on to the journey of an IM and it wrecks the relationship, with 3 kids it really needs to be a team effort.

It's a great feeling when the other half says they will support you - exactly what myhusband said back in March when I signed up for IM Melbourne 2013 - don't think he regrets it - think I do!  He is beginning to get used to the emotional meltdowns, loves the fit wife, loves that everyone tells him how hot she is...now I just gotta do it!

Congrats on the wife approval. I've had my wife's approval all along. But she asked me to put it off until 2013, because we had another kid this year. She wanted me to be around the house more to help out. I was reluctant at first, but it has turned out for the best.......rough Summer with the new baby. Another positive is that I get to volunteer this year & I'll get some real life practice on the actual bike & run courses.

By the way, if any of y'all plan on renting a house for next year, start looking NOW. I looked into 7-8 houses last week & half were already booked for 2013. 2 others haven't gotten back to me yet.

I'm lucky because my sister lives in Scottsdale, about a 20 minute drive, and will let me borrow a car all weekend and she will even drop my off at the race.  Free lodging and free rental car.  Although it is a huge withdrawal from the sister favor bank and I know she will ask for a return favor sometime.

Do you know how quickly the Foundation spots fill up after the general registration fills up?  Since I'm doing my best to save some money on lodging and car rental, I think I want to prepare to pay the Foundation price, just in case.

My Christmas gift to my husband in 2010 was IMAZ entry for 2011 (he'd been talking about doing a full IM forever).  It's a well run race.  However, beware of Tempetown Lake!  It's murky and smells terrible.  TR ingested some during his swim and had a stomach ache the whole race.  His wetsuit took a lot of rinses and fresh air to get the funk out.

When I signed him up I logged in as soon as registration opened and got through without a problem.  Printed out the confirmation and wrapped it up as a gift under the tree.

Good luck!!!

I think you'll have plenty of time to sign up for a foundation spot if you're unlucky enough not to get in on a regular slot. As you already know I'm sure, foundation spots are twice the amount...ouch. Good luck, I'm rooting for ya. See you in AZ next year!

Great that you get the support and good luck in registering!

I certaintly won't be racing, but I will be there cheering you crazy IMAZ people on, with my bright yellow collapsible vevuzela (all the way from South Africa), loud cheering voice, and large hands to clap you all on.  I'm considering putting on my Grim Reaper outfit this year and holding a sign near the end line saying "The End is Nigh"?

I've been watching/cheering on IMAZ for the last 3 years, and after IMAZ 2011, I was pretty much hoarse and my hands stung for 2 days afterwards.  It's my annual inspiration for doing this wonderful multi-sport and I'm so glad I have a Ironman event right on my doorstep.  I may never be able to do a full IM, but I'm slowly but surely progressing, and maybe one day..... perhaps when I turn 60?

Sadly, I haven't been able to volunteer for one of these events as work always gets in the way, but I'm always there on the bridges for the start and come back later in the afternoon/evening.
