Subject: RE: Running ....I find a treadmill harder. I think it's a few reasons.
First, the gym where I use it is quite hot - I don't have the moving air to cool me down...and their fans aren't great.
Second, I find outside, I self-moderate my pace, whereas on a treadmill I have to go the exact speed all the time. So if I slow down for a second and then speed up again outside - I am good, but inside, I don't have that option.
Third, I've also been fiddling with the incline. Outside, the roads are pretty darned flat. Inside, I am doing 1% or 2% grade - which isn't a lot, but it is noticible when you're used to flat.
Last - usually my harder workouts are inside (intervals, etc. ). I only do long runs inside if the weather is dreadful (which it was yesterday ).
The joy is that whenever I run outside, I am faster - and outside is what matters. |
