Comments:

I wanted to evenly pace this and I did that well. Couple of guys took it out pretty hard in the first couple of miles. I decided to run my own race and find my groove instead of getting caught up in a pace that might come back to bite me. First few miles were right around 6:40. Got out to 343 and Horns Point Rd and took in some gatorade and started gaining on some guys in front of me. Hit the turn around at 43:15 and sort of used that as a mental break to check things over, drop the arms for a second, and get the turnover up again. I was sitting in 7th at that point and 5th and 6th were about a minute up the road. Slowly gained on them til I caught them at the Horns Pt/343 turn. From there I was mostly running alone as the next guy was a ways up the road. I could tell I was slowly gaining on him, but ran out of room. Felt good on the bypass and at mile 11 I decided to start to open up the stride and push for home. I've ran that stretch dozens of times so it felt like a normal Saturday morning run. Got to the finish and was happy to record a 2.5 minute PR.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Used this race as an early season training race to build up and test out my run. Mission accomplished.
Post race
Warm down:

Swam 2k in the pool after eating some cookies and donuts.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not really specific half marathon training. No real tempo or race paced running yet. Just lots of consistency (6 runs a week every week)...

Event comments:

It's a fun, low-key race.

Congrats on the PR! You'd have been even faster if you trimmed your beard.
