Pre-race routine:

Usual leave work at 4, get home, pack the car, pack DH and leave by 5:15. Get there for 5:45, set up, ladies room, a few strokes in the water to test the temp.
Event warmup:

About 160 yards in the lake.
Swim
  • 11m 56s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

Meh. The field was big this time with lots of first timers. I had a hard time finding a spot to swim amongst the fishes. Also, this is the first time the sun was low and it was brutal.
What would you do differently?:

Switched to my mirrored goggles.
Transition 1
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

This course has the .25 mi run from the lake to T1. This is the first time I stopped to put shoes on first and the time I lost was worth the saved pain in my little feet over the rocks and pavement.
What would you do differently?:

Gotta get flip flops or something easy to throw on between the lake and T1.
Bike
  • 27m
  • 4.85 miles
  • 10.60 mile/hr
Comments:

I rock. LOL
What would you do differently?:

Gotta be more aggressive passing people
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
What would you do differently?:

nuthin
Run
  • 33m 6s
  • 2.98 miles
  • 11m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

My run is my weak point - not to mention I did a sprint road tri two days earlier. I had no real expectations and therefore no real disappointment. I'm really just happy the legs kept turning over and I didn't need to walk - and MOST importantly - no pain.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Jump in the car to head home for dinner!

Event comments:

Love the course so I keep coming back for more :)

I can train for half marathons on pavement and on trails, but as soon as I change it up to gravel or loose dirt my knee swells and the pain it causes is unreal. Any ideas why this happens?
