Full race report at http://wp.me/p1jSDD-13R
Event warmup:

My favroite preace routine, he laid back opposite of the Nations Tri. Roll out of bed in a motel, hop on my bike and casually make my way one mile to transition in the parade of the bike lane. Small resort town races rule.

Met Chris Lunch from BT (stilgarnaib)
Swim
  • 23m 3s
  • 890 yards
  • 02m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

I asjusted my swim vs T1 time because the Transition are was so far away, and I really walked it in. Technically the swim ends when I hit the mat. I was out of the water before ne guy in my wave, that's it. I was a wreck from this swim. The swim is why I do this race. A dead flat bike and run for a sprint, not really worth the trip. But the swim. I never get to sim in the oceani, and it shows, in 2011 I felt ok about the swim. In 2012 it nearly destroyed me with the current shift. In 2013 it looked to be an easy day. The waves were slight. Nothing ike I saw the last two years. But I was still seasick and nauseated. I relied on the current to sweep me south. I thought I'd get sick three times. I took in more water than ever before. It was weird.
What would you do differently?:

I'm considering dramamine for sea racing. But that causes drowsiness, so maybe I'll come up with my own club drink like the kids today, and slam a dramamine and red bull combo. That sounds totally safe doesn't it?
Transition 1
  • 08m 8s
Comments:

A transitin time 1/3 the leg time. That should say something. I was a mess from this swim. It has to be an innate seasickness. Te week before I swam twice as far in the potomac with no similar side effects.
What would you do differently?:

Bring two buckets. One to sit on, one to puke into.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 12s
  • 15 miles
  • 13.20 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Get aero.
Transition 2
  • 04m 9s
Comments:

This was so long because I did use the port-o-san.(Ever since the movie Woodstock I call them all a port-o-san.)
What would you do differently?:

Be a real triathlete and pee on the bike. In a sprint. It would still be better than texting on the bike, which I saw.
Run
  • 56m 35s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 16m 10s  min/mile
Post race
Warm down:

Right to food table and then out the door with no beer. I didn't have time. We started late and I needed a shower at the motel before check out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poseidon.

Event comments:

They never start on time. But I'll take that reality with the rest of the laid-back vibe and ease of bringing a family.

This past spring I realized a few of us were heading in the wrong direction physically. We were getting together for poker games and kids’ birthdays, but that was it.

I went down to the beach the day before to scout out the course, and it was glorious...the sun was out, the sea was as smooth as glass, and only a hint of a breeze was blowing. “Perfect,” I thought.

As a triathlete, there is one acronym that you just can’t fathom ever having next to your name in a race report – DNF: DID NOT FINISH.
