Subject: RE: It's race week! Kansas City Triathlon edition! Who's in? Reece,
I actually qualified for the 2013 & 2014 AGN last year at Midwest Regionals when I was 3rd overall. I attended Nationals the last two years and last year is where I hit my previous best run time of 35:38 on a much faster run course than KC this year (35:4x ).
I originally planned on attending AGN again in Milwaukee, it's a great course. Relatively nice swim, super steep dock to exit, fast fast bike and a super flat run course that slopes slightly downwards the last 2 miles. Overall a beautiful venue.
However, it was announced that Detroit would be holding an elite development race the week after AGN and I got the green light to attend that. As my first draft-legal race I decided to make it my "A" race this year since pro cards are on the line for top 3 finishers. Although, even if I somehow qualify, like most runners I'm going to spend more time developing my swim skills as an amateur before registering in the future.
I've opted out of AGN for this year for both that reason and because I'm still riding a road bike. It's just what I have available to me at the moment, but it's holding me back 1-2mph on the bike due to extra drag from my body position which really throws me down the listings at AGN. It's obviously not a problem being on a road bike in a draft-legal race so I'm interested to see what happens when the playing field gets equaled on the bike leg.
For clarification on nationals qualifications it's top 10% in your AG at any USAT Sanctioned Event or top 33% at a regional qualifier. You can also qualify by being I think top 33% in your AG at Nationals the previous year. |
