I had our local sprint today. Was fun but my times were slower than I thought they would be. Run was weird - breathing was good, no struggles but I had these weird cramps on the sides of my shins, and my legs generally felt heavy. Regardless, it's a gorgeous sunny day, I had fun, and am now getting in some solid recovery time on my hammock and about to have a cold beer ??

Enjoy the beer, you deserve it! : )

Oh wow, I missed your post Mike. Glad Linda brought it to my attention. Great job! Sit back and enjoy a beer.... or two.

Well, what has happened to the tracking? It has both of our IM at mile 7 of the bike but it hasn't updated in the last hour or so. Guess they are having some posting problems.

Congrats on the sprint, Mike! Enjoy the hammock and the cold one.

Now....if IM tracker would post an update...grrr...hope Steve and Mitch are more patient with their races than I am with that tracker!

Mitzi, nice to see you in the game!

Latest update I see is bike at 63 miles. Steve is doing well with a 15MPH average....hope his back holds up. Mitch is at 13.64MPH average...he started out pretty fast...hope he wasn't too aggressive after getting out of the water. Either way, they've both finished IM's before so they know what they're doing

Swim 1:33
Bike 6:33
Run 4:24
Total 12:40:48.

So those are the times to beat for me if I am at 100% if not, well it is to beat 17 hours 8). Grab that popcorn the game is afoot.

Looking at Steves previous performance theres quite a difference , Hope Steve and Mitch is ok . Hope steves back holds up..... Hang in there guys

The Champion "Andy Potts" is superhuman 53 secs/100m on the swim and 29.2 mph on a hilly road still able to do Sub 3 on the run.. Thats one genetic super mutation!

I just finished an endurance event on par with any tri -- putting together a portable basketball hoop. It had 200 parts, and directions written by someone who was either incredibly cruel or randomly wrote words on a page.

one note about today -- my soon to be Division 1 NCAA swimmer niece again topped the faster swim split of the day at the sprint. Out of 1000+ times, she was #1 with a time of 4:11 on a .25 mile course. She also took 3rd in her age group.

Update on Mitch & Steve have stopped at the halfway point of the bike. Hopefully its just tech issues w/ the timing?

I just checked again and there is definitely a glitch with the tracker. But Steve is off the bike and by my calc, he has almost 7 hours to complete the mary so yay, I think he has it in the bag! Mitch's times aren't updated past 63 bike miles but again, there is a glitch because so many other splits are missing from both his and Steve's. So here's hoping that Mitch is off the bike or soon to be off the bike. Goodness, this is so hard to figure out splits with the 3 hour time difference and the offset with the wave start.

Completely off topic but I began painting my bedroom. Ceilling, which I HATE to paint. is done. And two walls are done. I think I'm really going to like the color which is a medium sky blue. Need another gallon to finish the other two walls completely. My guys, who have been gone most of the day and not been here when I needed them to move furniture, are complaining about the smell. Really?! Do you think I have an oz of sympathy for them? Weinees.

Steve gets off the bike and does a 7:29/mile for the first 2.5 miles. Cray, cray. :-(

Bike 112 miles 07:19:51 15.28 mph 09:13:47 1454 1151 207 16:04:50
Run 1 2.5 miles 00:18:43 7:29/mile 09:38:58 1385 1107 199 16:30:01

Come on Mitch, finish strong on the bike.

Getting worried about Mitch on the bike, but hopefully just the squirrely IM tracker. Steve's run splits are into the realm of mere mortals now, so still looking good there.

Latest numbers still show Mitch at 63 mile mark on the bike. I'm worried something went wrong for him

Steve at 15 miles and has cranked up his pace to an 8:17 after going to a 10 pace at 10 mile mark....now that's impressive.

Agreed, Jay. I'm afraid Mitch may have crashed or had a mechanical. Just hoping he is OK. And dang, Steve is bouncy! Don't know the topography of the course, so could be the slower split was net uphill. This might just keep me up past my bed time!

Mitch still at same spot w/ bike? - Hope he is ok...

Steve going well. Interesting to keep up with the happenings..

These guys and gals are unreal!

For me today:
Swim - 4 x 25 warm up then drills, drills, drills. Had a couple of "ah ha" moments, which were followed by oh crap

Bike - went exploring - looked for a way to get across a river to be able to bike to work. Found a bikeway along the highway and cruised a bit - overall 20 miles.

Tomorrow - decided to take the day off and rest - sprint on Tuesday evening. Looking forward to being faster than last time!!

Best,
-Dennis

Dennis, you summed up training perfectly. Best of luck in your Tuesday tri!!!!

WTG Steve! Just over 10K to go for that 140.6 miles. Really wanted to watch you cross the finish line but I've got a rough day at work tomorrow since it's our end of year. But we are so proud of you!

Mitch, I hope the tracking is screwed up but, as Carol said, I'm beginning to fear mechanical issues. Be let us know how you are because I really don't want it to be a crash. We are all proud of you tho for going out there.

Hi everyone, Yes I survived the IM. Given my back I was not sure whether my day would be over after 10 yards in the water, but things held well enough. So the water was basically whitecaps at 5am with rollers as well as cross wind waves as well. Then the 50 miles of mostly uphills was into a 15-20 mph headwinds, which chewed everyone up. My right shoulder did not allow me to put weight on the handlebars from my right hand for much of the race which was awkward. I the cold my son has had for 3 weeks I picked up today with symptoms starting during the race. I was pretty good through mile 17 of the run, but then I started having muscle groups give me trouble. It turns out that one can do an Ironman with muscle relaxants in your system, but it affects not just the intended muscles but all of the muscles in random ways. So anyway walk run for the last 9 miles, but all is good. And Samantha has volluntered and was the one to give me my finishers medal... pretty cool. So rough day overall, but got er done.

Not sure what happened to Mitch...hope he is ok.

Congratulations, Steve. Fantastic performance. And so cool about Samantha!!

Conditions sound awful for the swim and the first half of the bike, but way to fight through it even with the back issues. Just awesome!

I'm sure the last thing you want to think about is IMLT, but how do you handle training in the interrim? Take a week to recover, figure out taper, then work a plan back from the taper start? I'm curious about the 'between races" approach you have to take to keep your fitness, recover, and get ready.

Rest up, have a safe tri home, and contratulations. Great job!!

Mitch --- how are you today? Lots of folks here waiting to hear from you when you are ready.

Awesome job, Steve! Phenomenal mental game for you, not to mention the physical. Very cool that Samantha was there to hand you your medal. Perfect end to a victorious day.

Mitch, worried about you, so please let us hear from you. Know you gave it your all no matter what happened.

Had to abandon my computer to put the dogs to bed (we have a very dysfunctional doggie household 3 dogs...two of which hate each other), so couldn't track anymore last night .

Dropping in here as I knew IMCDA was a upon us and wanted to see how y'all did. So nice to see the crowd for the IMCDA'ers. Steve congrats on the race. Glad you could pull through with tweaked back, and cold oncoming, you paint a nice picture of what racing is really like at this level.

Mike D - Way to recover. I don't partake very often anymore but did fit in a beer the other day, with my wife in the hot tub.

Mitch - Please check in, Sound like it was pretty rough.

My daughter graduated 8th grade and summer upon us, and things have been quite busy. I notice some new faces here but I am a hold over from Steve's previous groups. My name is Joe, I hope to be more active here now. I can use the encouragement as I have talked about signing up for a HIM. Yesterday I pushed the button signing up for two races. A sprint July 26th, and a HIM 9/6. I am so psyched! Training has been a bit meh.. The run is not coming together and the training has been inconsistent. Still time, well 8wks anyway, and some parts are coming together, so choosing to trust in that strength/progress I've made. The 35.5 mi bike Saturday is part of that progress, finishing the last 5.5 with a nice uphill climb.
