I've done races with cold air like this, and brought along a very light windbreaker cycling jacket to put on. It worked well. Something kind of like this one, but a different brand (they don't make the exact one I have any more )

On the other hand, if cold does not bother you much, you could probably tough it out in 55 deg for a sprint tri. If it were me, I'd go for a very short 5 minute warm up ride on race morning without any jacket and see how it felt. If it felt cold, I'd plan on using the jacket, because I know I can focus better if I am not cold.
