I'm same boat as you in that I have some massive weight loss needed but I have expereinced the joys of completing some triathlons before, it is a great feeling I am sure you will get to ecperience next year.
Only advice I would give (and not that I am great at prcticing my preachings ), consistency.. training consistently is more beneficial than hard bursts and then days off..
