Run
Comments: I had planned to go out fast and hold on and this strategy worked out. My previous 5km PR was from this race two years ago and I knew I was going to be knocking a lot of time off it. The fast start meant I suffered from the 1st KM and I cursed having forgotten my watch and my race belt. Also for a zero degree day I had manged to over dress. I should have been brave enough to shiver on the start line in exchange for being a little cooler later on. I felt the strain for almost the whole distance but concentrated well to maintain an aggressive pace. What would you do differently?: Dress lighter. Remember my watch to get some splits feedback. Plan a way to mentally check my form as the race progresses. Post race
Warm down: Kept moving after the finish line. Felt some hamstring tightness but stretched it out and kept walking to avoid stiffening up. Event comments: The Subaru Series is well established, well run and attracts a serious crowd. Mildly annoying that the race series has moved to using a new chip timing company. So now I have yet another place to go for results. But it is no biggie. Last updated: 2015-02-24 12:00 AM

Race at 10 so plenty of time to get organised. The race it at Jordan Lions Arena and so thanks to the hockey changing facilities there are lots of bathroom available.
Watched my sons in the 1km and then got to the start line with about 15 minutes to spare. Did my dynamic stretches and some jogging to warm up. Then ran some 50 meter segments to try and get the motor running.
