Subject: Fifth Third River Bank Run Roll call... who is running the 25k in a few weeks?
It was my first big race back in 2012. I trained for a year, lost 70 pounds, and ended up in the hospital due to dehydration, though I did finish in 2:56 for an 11:15 pace. I took a few years off but have been back at it for about 10 months now and have made some solid progress. I ran the Lake Michigan Credit Union Bridge Run last fall at a 9:56 pace and finished the Striders 10 Mile Classic last weekend at an 8:56 pace. It was 3rd from last in my age group, but I chalk that up to it being a race that attracts more serious runners. I had no idea what pace to target for the RBR so I used the Striders 10 Mile to gauge my progress. McMillan says I should be able to run the 25k at 9:15 pace, or 2:23. That would be a 33 minute PR!
How does everyone go about tapering for a 25k? I've been told 2 weeks is a good place to start, but how do you structure your taper and how do you work in your biking and swimming? |
