Overcast
Total Time = 1h 09m 47s
Overall Rank = 74/137
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 14/18
Pre-race routine:

Tough couple weeks of training since last Tri 3/28. Missed a few swims, bikes and runs. Maybe 4 outdoor rides and no bricks.
Event warmup:

Drove to race and set up my transition area. Stretched and changed. Went to pool and swam 400 yard warm up. Chatted a little with some other age groupers I have seen at other races
Swim
  • 05m 22s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swam in my tri top. I usually don't because it slows me a little

Caught two swimmers in front of me. Was stuck behind the first one for a little while and had to pass mid lane. The second held at the end of the lane.
What would you do differently?:

I seeded at 1:40, but should shave a couple seconds off. Guys in front of me said they seed at their fastest 100, not the average for the distance
Transition 1
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

One of the swimmers I passed was out of TA before me. Talked after and he bikes sockless. Something to consider if I get faster in other areas

Saved a lot of time wearing my tri top during the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing at this time. Significantly better than last month, and didn't rush.
Bike
  • 33m 6s
  • 10 miles
  • 18.13 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike. Struggled on some of the hills. This was the first time I used my small chain ring. I live in a really flat area. Speeds between 7 and 37 mph. Some of the ups and downs were close, and starting out if felt like a roller coaster. Lots of fun. Passed a few folks but didn't see many. The age grouper that beat me out of TA and I went back and forth. This kept it interesting. I passed him with about a mile left. Overall two folks passed me and I passed a few more than that. Slow course.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Shoe popped off my clips after I dismounted and I had to go back for it
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 28m 50s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off and tried to stay with the guy I exited TA with. I knew his run time from last tri was faster than mine by a couple minutes. I lost him at the half mile. Settled into a 9:15 for first mile, 9:20 for second and 9:05 for third. Pushed hard the last 0.3 miles as someone was coming up behind me. They didn't catch me.

Legs felt pretty heavy. Given the course I was happy.
What would you do differently?:

Working Bricks and more speed work. Lots of room for improvement on the run. Cutting 30-60 seconds a mile would be significant.
