Elite 4583 | Subject: 2.13.16 Super Saturday Good morning BT! Well, unintentional day off. Kind of accidentally/on purpose slept in! Normally I'd have all day to fit whatever in but more basketball games today as well as wrestling League Championships--as the yearbook advisor I need to get down to the school and get some pictures--so rest day but a busy day! Have a good one!

I can't seem to get up early on the weekend lately…but was exhausted last night so the sleep was what I needed! 8:30 - 1:35 trainer ride - did parts of The Rookie from sufferfest…but my legs were DEAD so it turned into more of a Z2/Z3 ride with some short threshold bursts mixed in when I could manage. Guess my classes this week took their toll on my energy! Frustrating but I know I can't expect to be 100% every day. Trying to keep it mellow today, will run some errands with the kids. High in the 80's here, not really ready for the heat so maybe some time outside! Enjoy the weekend! Edited by runspingirl 2016-02-13 12:14 PM |

I slept until 9 today. I can't remember the last time I slept that late. I did take the Mrs. to Kinky Boots last night for Valentine's Day! Hilarious musical. I wonder how kinky boots would look for triathletes!!! Nice five mile run. Our winter temps are very warm. 60's today, with 80's on Thursday for our Open House! Remember its not too late for anyone to order restraints. What a Valentine's Gift!! Rob |

Master 8247 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: 2.13.16 Super Saturday I slept in a bit too Saturday AM (till about 6) and regretted it as our heat and humidity are back with a vengeance. 1:50 long run with about half an hour of tempo stuff--the last hour or so was a real slog'n'slosh (shoes completely filled with sweat). Plus 15 minutes of core later. Spent most of the rest of the day lying on the couch in the AC. Trying to get motivated for long brick now--it's not going to get any cooler, neither today nor probably until next January here, so I'd better get my butt off the couch! |

New user 1351 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: 2.13.16 Super Saturday Well there it is, I'm an ultra marathoner! Today i did my first 50k, 31 friggin miles in a (respectable? probably not) time of 5 hours and 49 minutes. It started out at 9am with me blasting Deep Purple over the stereo while I put vaseline, bandaids and tape over my nippies. Now there's a hell of an image that you can all keep tucked away for the next time you're feeling lonely at night. I ran down to my favorite place to exercise, the 10 mile multi use trail that goes around the lake. On the weekends it's flooded with hundreds, maybe even thousands of athletes, many of them quite interesting people. One guy for example passed me on his bike, no hands on the handlebars because he was too busy playing his flute. It was a beautiful day with warm sun and a cool breeze. My feast consisted of salty purple potatoes, bananas, gels, and of course plenty of dark chocolate. The sweat that rained out of my body dried and turned my skin into 80 grit sandpaper. I wish I had taken a picture of what it looked like by the end of it. By mile 14 I busted out the ibuprofen, by 17 I was on my knees, head in the dirt stretching my hips out. By 20 I was having some trouble with the downstairs plumbing, not too serious and it's hard to pinpoint what caused it because there were so many variables to consider. By mile 23 I was starting to run out of steam (hard to believe right?) and by mile 27 my bar of dark chocolate was callin the shots. I won't lie to you, when I finished, the very thought of doing all that PLUS another 19 miles sat pretty hard in my stomach, but now that its been a few hours I can say that i don't feel too too bad. I'm not exactly going out dancing for the rest of the night but at least I can walk ok. This 50 mile race is going to be one hell of an experience. In addition to the training I've been putting in, the best thing that I have going for me is that I'm too stubborn and foolish to let reality get in the way. I hope you're all having awesome break through workouts! |

Master 2406 Bellevue, WA | Subject: RE: 2.13.16 Super Saturday An hour spin class at the gym. They have new spin bikes with power meters that seem quite accurate. My FTP is around 160 and both of the times I've taken the class on these new bikes I've averaged right around there. |

Master 8247 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: 2.13.16 Super Saturday Congrats! Brings back memories. My first (and only) ultra was a DIY 60-ish km run (someone dared me to run from where I lived in Taiwan for a year in my 20's to the ocean)--sweet potatoes and bananas also played a big part in it. (I was stopping at farms stands and getting fruit and roasted sweet potatoes and re-stocking on water.) I took a break at one point to eat something at about 30K and inadvertently fell asleep for about half an hour--that seemed to really help with fatigue. Not sure I'd recommend that in a race setting, though! Yeah dark chocolate! |
