Subject: Help me set up my Garmin
so I have a edge 500 on my bike and I'm trying to sort how to set it up for race day. is there a way when I hop on my bike in transition it's ready to roll? I've had to power it on, wait for satellites while riding first cpl hundred yards then hope all my data is showing (power, HR, etc). I have the following fields set up and have been pretty happy with them;
Ttl Time
3s Power
Speed
Heart Rate
Cadence
Distance

I have it set up to lap every 5 miles. I also have a Garmin Vivoactive which doesn't really support all elements of the tri. I've just been putting it in run mode and manual lap at end of swim, T1, Bike, T2, run. Mostly use it to gauge pace and HR on the run. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I also have the 500. I turn it on before the swim. I disable the auto-off function. Not great for battery, but that probably won't matter. Just make sure you have a full charge.

My race setup is usually

3s Power
30s power
Lap Avg Power
Time
distance

I don't use auto lap but rather lap it when it seems appropriate.  For example, if I go through an intersection or long descent where I have to coast then i lap it once I start pedalling again so that the lap power field isn't showing me something with a bunch of zeros in it.

Also agree with the other poster.  Turn it on when you setup transition in the morning and disable auto off.

I do the same as axteraa, disable the auto-off and set the auto-pause to a fairly low speed - faster than you will be running out of T1 but slower than on the bike course.  I believe mine is set to 14 km/hr.  Press start before the swim and it will automatically start once I am going faster than 14 km/hr.

I also include heart rate and cadence in my fields.
