Subject: RE: pre-event massages worth it ? I amost always do Pre-Race Massages before longer distance "A" races. (Especially Marathons )
I usually get mine in the 2nd week of a 3 week taper and it does help me a great deal. (As does a Post-Race Massage )
The key is to let them know that you will be doing an endurance event and when.
They always told me to drink tons of water afterward because the massage will free up a lot of toxins that need to be flushed from the body. This may or may not be true but drinking lots of water during taper is always a good thing.
I have a pretty agressive taper and usually carry quite a bit of fatigue into the 2nd week and so the benefits are probably magnified a bit.
Not sure how much scientific evidence there is out there about the benefits of pre-race massages but it sure seems to help both physically and mentally.
FWIW: Most of my Marathon Friends swear by Pre-Race Massages and this is where I learned about them. Edited by WaterDog66 2007-05-01 6:05 PM
