Overall Rank = 69/146

Age Group Rank = 15/26
Swim
  • 25m 26s
  • 1584 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

I decided to not push the swim too much so that I wouldn't use up too much energy.
What would you do differently?:

Next time I might push it a little bit more.
Transition 1
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

My transitions were way better than my first race. It really helped having the shoes already on the bike. The first part of the bike course was uphill, so I had a little bit of trouble getting into the shoes, but it wasn't too bad. The transition area was first come first serve, and I got an awesome spot, pretty close to the bike entrance/exit.
Bike
  • 1h 11m 30s
  • 23.5 miles
  • 19.72 mile/hr
Comments:

It was nice that the course was so hilly, cause I was able to pass a lot of people on the hills. I was a little disappointed that my avg mph was below 20 though. I heard people afterwards making comments that the course was "excruciating" though, so I guess I should be happy with my average.
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

I decided to go ahead and wear socks for the run, so that probably added a few seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Keep practicing running without socks, so that I can build up my callouses and not have to put on socks in transition.
Run
  • 1h 01m 42s
  • 6 miles
  • 10m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt horrible on the run! I got a side stitch for the first 3 miles, plus I was running really tense trying to keep from tripping on all the roots and rocks. In most of my training, I almost always run on an empty stomach, so I think I got the side stitch because of the water in there. At the end of the first lap, the trail lead out to the road, and we ran for about 200 yards in the grass beside the road, slightly downhill. Because of that, I was finally able to get a more normal stride, and the side stitch went away. So, I did the second lap a little faster than the first.
What would you do differently?:

I'm going to try and start drinking more before my runs in practice, so that my stomach gets used to running with liquid in it.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the finish area.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The side stitch during the run.

Event comments:

Overall, this was a good race. It was well run and fun. Apart from the side stitch, everything else was good.

Great job on the race!!  Getting your shoes on going up that hill must have been a challenge!

That's a great time for an Oly! Nice job.

I'm not sure about the shoes on the bike technique.. I know all the elites do it.. but I can't help but think that the time in T1 to put on the shoes would be made up by cranking out a higher cadence as soon as I get on the bike.. as opposed to fumbling around trying to get my feet in the shoes while pedeling? I guess I could try it a few times in training and see how it goes...

That was a tough race. I've run some on the trails in the park, but they still killed me. Funny to see that you finished one spot ahead of me in the overall
