Go to http://www.pureblueswim.comand get hair products for swimmers. Otherwise, try using some heavy-duty shampoo and conditioner made for people with dry, damaged, or color-treated hair. Oh, and rinse your hair before you put your swim cap on...your hair won't soak up as much chlorinated water that way.

tek8807 - 2007-08-17 11:08 AM I've recently been thinking of cutting my hair short as well. My problem is ever since I started swimming regularly in the pool my hair has gotten fried. I condition the heck out of it but it only helps a little. I have fine hair. It hasn't turned green but is the texture of stray. Even after my last hair cut, it seemed like it was back to fried in two weeks. Anyone else have this problem? Any recommendations? Tanya

I use Jason Organics' swimmers' shampoo after I swim, and I always follow up with a substantial conditioner--either the swimmers' conditioner or the tall grass high-protein one. About once a week I treat my hair to H20+'s sea marine revitalizing shampoo and marine collagen conditioner. It's expensive, hence the only-once-a-week use, but my hair always comes out looking and feeling happier.

(okay I clearly love my hair)

I also stopped highlighting my hair when I chopped it off, and WOW is that super nice.  No more brittle mess and it holds up to swimming great.

The length of hair I am advocating does require frequent haircuts.  And I was never the wash and go type, I felt my hair looked wierd and limp.  If you can wash and go, any length is great.  If not, then the shorter the better.  But it really does come down to hair texture.

What the heck is a "hairobar"?

My hair is long...and I like it long...just hard to get it in my swim cap. lol.

Think about cutting my hair and every time I get a few good hair days in a row right before my appt. LOL.

I used to have shoulder length hair but then I went through a crisis and got it cut mega short. It was wonderful to work with while swimming. Easy to manage, style and dried in no time. But I got bored with it and now I'm growing it again. It's at that horrid inbetween stage but at least it all fits in a cap. I've swam more this summer than I ever have it's already turned blond, dried out and will probably need to be cut again after summer is over.  I don't mind short or long hair to be honest...longer hair slims out my man arms and short hair makes me look butch.  I did however recently come across Jasons swimmers shampoo and it seems to be helping with the drying out.

Have you considered maybe an ear length bob. I had one of those and it dried in so straight. But I do have pencil straight hair. That's what I'm trying to aim for just now.

I like running behind women who have ponytails. The back-and-forth swinging is very hypnotic.

From someone who used to be able to sit on their hair, it is now short. I find I don't have to do much to keep it up. Wash and go works most of the time and it I want to get a more sophisticated look and little gel or mousse goes a long way. I love the way I can finish a race and the hair being short does not look all sweated out.

I cut my hair 10 years ago and love it. It takes me 5 minutes to blow-dry and style and as someone else said, it always looks done.  Not like I threw it in a pony tail or a clip. The one down side is that you wake up with bed head every day and can't really leave without at least wetting and drying...but that takes minimal time.

No problem with the swim cap, easy as cake. I always wear a visor or hat for the run.

I, personally, think there are too many women with overly long hair, in crappy condition, who think it should be long because "that's what women do and that's what's sexy", regardless of what shaped face they have. Nothing is sexier than a shorter, well-cut, head of hair that is worn with confidence.

Chin length, layered bob here, a little shorter in the back.  I've never had long hair, the longest ever was for my wedding last year and it was still only just brushing my shoulders.  I think chin length is perfect although I do miss the ease of a pony tail.  I too do the pig tails for running and an elastic headband for biking. (I pull the top layer back for tris)  My options in the morning are a) shower or b) baseball cap.  Both work just fine and the hair part takes less than 10 minutes.

go short!

Not that you asked, but if you had, I'd always suggest longer.

But that's b/c you're male...   what's with guys and long hair?

I've always figured the women who look decent after a race either have really short hair or long... so I did away with the in-between and went long which I love, but I also miss my short, chic do.

If you go by evolutionary psychology, long hair is a sign of fertility....which is why men seem to be programmed to like long hair. Women that are underfed/undernourished won't have luscious locks, and could theoretically not be able to bear or take care of children.

Things are different these days though, but sometimes it's hard to break our "nature" :-)

I had long hair for a while, but it always got tangled and knotted after any physical activity, and the ponytail would end up plastered to my neck anyway. I just cut it to chin length and am enjoying the low maintenance requirement! No more french braiding in the morning!

I let my bangs grow because I was tired of them being plastered to my face when I sweat. My hair has always been about 2 inches above my brastrap.

What about colored hair? I'm wondering if I'm going to have trouble with it when I start getting in the pool.

I've been short pretty much all my life, with the anomaly of about a year in high school. I've also always been a swimmer. Dunno if I agree with the "short hair is more work" camp...I usually just wash, rinse, put a little bit of wax in, blow dry and go. Or if I'm really pressed for time, wax and go. Or if I'm just plain lazy, just let it be. I love my short hair, and I'd really never go back. Its served me well in tri's.

I've been on both sides. Long long hair and short short hair. Right now it is short and frankly can't imagine if I would have wanted to deal with a.m. swims and getting out of gym with dry hair if it were long long. Pretty much I just wash and go... sometimes 2 mins of finger hair drying, gel, and voila!

I have VERY thick hair. Very thick. It takes FOREVER to dry when long. So long hair took me ages to get purrtied up for work etc... which 95% of the time would ultimately be pulled up because I didn't have the time to deal with curling it. Seems so sad to have gorgeous long hair but always pull it up. Anyhow..I"m toying with growing it again. Don't think I'll ever go long long again due to time constraints and fashion as a 40 something now.

Everyone has texture, facial features, color, and ability to manage styling etc.. to deal with in making a good choice for hair cuts.

Halle Berry has gorgeous features that I feel are buried in her long hair. Short hair made her face the center of attention.
