Subject: RE: Putting on/taking of bike shoes while on the bike mikep - 2007-08-19 11:03 AM
I'll be the devil here and say that I am not so sure it is worth it. I watched many races where putting the shoes on while on the bike has cost more time. Crashes, mishaps, fussing, etc.. Even the pros.
Yep
I did a local sprint Tri with my wife yesterday. The Relay team Bike rack was right next to the Bike in and Out gate.
Wow, I saw the most crashes and misshapes at start and finish of the bike that I've ever seen. Most of these were people trying to mount their bikes with shoes on the pedals or get off before the timing mat with their shoes still on the pedals.
Personal, I just put my shoes on then hop on the bike. I find my feet stay cleaner and I use Speedplay pedals so the running surface on the bottom of the shoe is plenty big to run on. Same for coming into T2, I use a cyclocross style dismount. Unclip the right leg (shoe still on ), swing the leg around and in between my left leg and bike. Twist the left foot off the pedal, hit the ground running right before the mat. Works great and I have clean feet when I go to put my socks and shoes on. |
