A Christmas Story, Mr. Bean Christmas and New Year Episodes, and any of those felt-mation Christmas specials from when I was a kid in the 70's like Rudolph or Frosty the Snowman.

Here are mine:

"A Christmas Story"
"It's a Wonderful Life"

Christmas Story is just a classic and although it was out when I was a bit older, it seemed to resonate well for some reason.

Wonderful Life is certainly a timeless classic if for nothing else, putting some zing back in the holiday time for me

Although, watching Mr. Gowar hit young Geo. Bailey is tough

Oh, and it seems like a good enough place to put this:

" no man is a failure who has friends. Thanks for the wings!"
-Clarence

 A Christmas Story

Muppet's Christmas Carol

Christmas Vacation (Clark, they not twinkling.   I know Dad, thanks for noticing.)

You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
You really are a heel.
You're as cuddly as a cactus,
You're as charming as an eel.
Mr. Grinch.

You're a bad banana
With a greasy black peel.

You're a monster, Mr. Grinch.
Your heart's an empty hole.
Your brain is full of spiders,
You've got garlic in your soul.
Mr. Grinch.

I wouldn't touch you, with a
thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole.

You're a vile one, Mr. Grinch.
You have termites in your smile.
You have all the tender sweetness
Of a seasick crocodile.
Mr. Grinch.

Given the choice between the two of you
I'd take the seasick crockodile.

You're a foul one, Mr. Grinch.
You're a nasty, wasty skunk.
Your heart is full of unwashed socks
Your soul is full of gunk.
Mr. Grinch.

The three words that best describe you,
are, and I quote: "Stink. Stank. Stunk."

You're a rotter, Mr. Grinch.
You're the king of sinful sots.
Your heart's a dead tomato splot
With moldy purple spots,
Mr. Grinch.

Your soul is an apalling dump heap overflowing
with the most disgraceful assortment of deplorable
rubbish imaginable,
Mangled up in tangled up knots.

You nauseate me, Mr. Grinch.
With a nauseaus super-naus.
You're a crooked jerky jockey
And you drive a crooked horse.
Mr. Grinch.

You're a three decker saurkraut and toadstool
sandwich
With arsenic sauce.

The timeless treasure - "A Charlie Brown Christmas".  It would be complete if the Dolly Madison ads (especially the original Zingers) were still shown.

Emmet Otter's is a classic.

I'm a little partial to Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo on South Park. Another holiday classic.

"A Christmas Carol" with George C. Scott
"National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" (watched it on the trainer the other day)
"The French Connection"  for no other reason than Gene Hackman uses a Santa disguise.
"The Odessa File" with Jon Voigt...has a brief Christmas shopping scene in it.

Yeah, weird, I know...

I've always enjoyed rewatching Groundhog's Day -- still cracks me up.
And How the Grinch Stole Christmas is mandatory, of course.

OK, this is really my fave:

"Olive, the Other Reindeer"--based on a beautifully-drawn book. Drew Barrymore plays Olive, a dog who, upon hearing "Rudolph" on the radio, confuses the lyrics and thinks it's about "Olive" instead of "...all of the other Reindeer...". Plus, Michael Stipe voices a reindeer and sings. Good stuff.

"Planes, Trains and Automobiles" with the late John Candy and Steve Martin is always fun to watch as long as you do not actually have to travel during the Holidays.

It wouldn't be Christmas without:

  1. It's A Wonderful Life
  2. A Christmas Story
  3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (cartoon)

This year my son is pumped - he's 4.  We have watched the Jim Carey/Ron Howard Grinch movie at least 8-9 times.  I guess it has made the list.

The original Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer... the one from the early 60's with the rolling/sliding snowman narrating it...

Help me, what is the name of the santa movie that tells the story of the mean king who wouldn't let toys be given by Chris - so he started putting toys in stockings that were drying by the fireplace overnight - it's also the one that tells how Santa got married to Mrs Claus....  Told the kids this story andnow they want to see the movie but I can't remember the name of it.
