Does anyone clean their HR monitor strap?

Regular 609   Raleigh |  Subject: Does anyone clean their HR monitor strap?I'm pretty fastidious about keeping my kit clean after workouts, but the strap for my HR monitor gets sweaty pretty much every day and it just occurred to me that I've never cleaned/washed it! Does anyone clean their strap and, if so, how?

I occassionally run it through the washer but not the dryer. The watch usually gives out on me before the strap so it doesn't seem to hurt anything. - We are just talking abut the fabric part, right? |

Only ever on a 30 degree wash but its fine. In fact, when I got it serviced a few months ago they recommended I washed it regularly....perhaps they were trying to tell me something.... |

| 3 | Subject: RE: Does anyone clean their HR monitor strap? I almost always wash mine after each wear -- just a quick suds with hand soap and a rinse through. The strap is a bit thick, I guess, but it dries fast. I just lay it on my bathroom counter and it's always dry by the next day. |

I looked at mine the other day and in a couple areas on the material portion of the strap it is covered in white salt. I've noticed this before but my slow twitch brain never thought about washing it. However, I did think to myself, boy is that disgusting, but just carried on. I do always wipe it down with a towel after a workout, but never rinsed or washed it (obviously). I believe I've had this strap at least 2 years and never washed it yet. That is indeed pretty disgusting and after reading this thread I think a good washing is now on my to-do list! Where would I be without the BT forums? |

A little over a year of 6x/week use; I've only let it air-dried. The little ridges on the pads (Timex Race Trainer) are starting to show some nasty stuff, I really do need to clean the thing up. One thing I do to keep if from getting really nasty is to let it air dry, by letting the strap hang out of the gym bag, while it's sitting in the car all day at work. |
