"Clunky and not exactly pretty, but the 817s shine when it comes to stability, durability and outstanding comfort. "Spleen

Well built, good laces and no busted stitching after about 100 miles. There is sort of a "click" in the heel now when I walk so there's probably some separation between the materials in the sole.

Wide toe box and medium to wide heel cup. Fits nicely over the instep. I'm very flat footed and with an orthotic it still fits great.

This is where the shoe really shines for me. As a heavy super flat-footed super-pronator I'm a difficult fit. I've always had blistering problems in the upper arch with other shoes starting at just 3-5 miles, but I have yet to see even a red spot on my feet in these shoes. I also had tendonitis problems in other motion control shoes and the issues are resolving nicely in the 817s. I couldn't run for 2 months due to tendonitis and this shoe has put me back on the road.

It's a shoe, what can I say? Just play around with the lacing I guess.

Only 100 miles, so far so good. My Brooks Beasts didn't look nearly as good at 100.

Cheaper than the Brooks Beast by about $30. I've been seeing them pop up online as cheap as $60 which would be a freaking steal. Never seems to be in my size, though.

They're orange. Not the sexiest color out there, especially on a Clyde.

Solidly constructed shoe suitable for Clydes & pronators that don't mind being shod with pumpkin orange. Great pronation control and apparently quite sturdy for folks that like to put on the miles.

Heavy! I'm a size 13 and with my orthotics I'm looking at a pound a shoe!
