"This is probably the worst iPod that Apple produced. This was backed up by the (poorly-timed for me) introduction of the Gen 4 shuffle that looks almost exactly like the Gen 2 shuffle. I own an iPod touch 2G and would run with it if not for its bulk. I guess I'll have to suck it up and either use this (with the Belkin headphone adapter that I bought...see other review) or sell it to a non-runner out of principal and buy one of the new Gen 4s or an old Gen 2."bigpapajon
Quality of Construction
Apple makes good stuff. However, I have to regularly clean out the headphone port since I clip them to my waistband and the salty sweat eats away at the contacts. I rarely use the included headphones and they've already crapped out twice. (+1 to Apple for replacing them at the Apple store twice without question, but -2 to Apple for having a too high a douchebag to everyone else ratio with their store employees).
Fit
Clip is nice. It would be nicer if the edges were just a little rounder. The shortness of the included headphone cord brings the fit rating down a couple more notches. I, like most runners, like to run my headphone cord down my back. I can't do that with these junk headphones and short cord.
Adjustability
The included headphones and proprietary cord style limit the use of this out-of-the-box.
Durability
Apple makes good stuff. It stands up to the test of time.
Value
You have to put another $30-$40 in accessories to make this usable.
Appearance
Minimalist, but too much so for an MP3 player.
Customer Service
Store employees are jackholes and the phone support is just overwhelmed.
Performance
Controls can be too hard to work while training. Headphone sound quality is poor.
Strengths
(1) Portable size
(2) Handy clip
(3) iTune compatibility
Weakness
(1) Poor control placement
(2) Poor headphone design
(3) Bad move on the proprietary headphones
(4) Should come with extension cord
(5) Have to buy accessories to do basic things like charge without USB and use your own headphones.

Ease of use
The included (and proprietary) headphones are junk. They don't stay in your ears and the controls are poorly placed
