Sunny
Total Time = 4h 00m 25s
Overall Rank = 243/248
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 32/32
Pre-race routine:

Focus on last years time; 4:03 is unexpectable... This years time 3:30min.. If all goes well I should be able to shave off 33 mins..

yeah it didnt..
Event warmup:

Awoke 400, drank protien drink, powerbar and my vitumins.. Stretch for a bit then drove to transtion area to set up... Set-up my area then drove back to the campsite. Woke the family in there tents and rode Kristin back to transition 2+mile warm-up. Met up with some friends and fellow Bt'ers..
The tri sprits really help us out by allowing rain the following day to cool off the air a bit...
Swim

  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 41s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim was burtal after all of the training I really felt that I was going to reach my goal of <35minutes. Right out of the gate i felt all of the blood and oxgyen rush from my legs, I knew right then that the bike was going to be very difficult. Where in the hell did all of the air go? I couldnt breath. No air was getting into my lungs, just like last year; felt the "oxygen" leave my legs during he swim and couldnt fill my lungs with it either.. WTF, I had to breaststroke for most of the race. My goggles also filled with water from the start and ended up swimming with one eye open. I couldnt get in a good rythum without having to stop and empty out my mask.. Had a bad swim portion. My goal time was 35 min, but ended up with 40.25sec which was still .24 sec from last year..
What would you do differently?:

Really dont know what i would do differently, everything was good except the goggles, and lack of oxygen... It has to be the Altitude.. I dont ever feel like this when in the valley.. Im saying below average just for the fact that when i OWS @ the lake in Phx I swim much faster

Transition 1

Comments:

Walked into T1 after a delirious swim... T1 time was 60 sec faster than last year

What would you do differently?:

Nothing other than running into and out of T1. but since here was no air I decided to walk... in order to catch my breath, which didnt happened until I finished the race.
Bike
  • 1h 37m 43s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 15.26 mile/hr
Comments:

Oh God, here we go again. From the start, I had wobbly legs, couldnt even get on my bike without stumbling over, no I didnt fall. Avg mph was 13-15. First hill, wasnt that bad, I had finally got some leg back under me only to loose it on he second hill where I wanted to turn around and head home.. The rest of the ride was murder, i still couldnt breath and my legs wouldnt turn-over. Heading back for the last 12 miles wasnt as bad as I was heading down hill but still couldnt get past 16mph avg... Rode into T2, dead on my feet and very discourage knowing that I still had at least an hour and a half run ahead of me..

Oh did I mentioned that I hate running… Another bad bike. Goal time was 1:20min but ended with 1:37:43sec which was 6min faster than last year..
What would you do differently?:

The swim really took alot out of my legs, when pre-riding the course proir to the race I was able to avg 17mph wih a lot of strength left for a start to a good run.

The only thing I could have done better was to ride my motorcycle on the course or take a 45min break..

After thinking about it. this was the frist race that I didnt finish my areo bottle and second "just water" bottle and or ate anything during the ride. Maybe thats why I died during the last half of the bike and the run.

Oh and maybe loose 40lbs...
Transition 2
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

Crawled into T2 after a bike wreack of a ride. Almost stayed, maybe I should have...

Ran in/out of T2, not even mentally prepared for the run... no worries out of T2 .50sec faster than expected..
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 1h 36m 30s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 15m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

GOD I HATE RUNNING>>> NO really I do, I could not get faster than 14min miles, how sad. I dont even want to write about this so I wont...

4.30 minutes slower than last year. I REALLY REALLY hate running..

What would you do differently?:

NOT RUN>>>
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around in a daze... and ate 2 watermelons at the feed station..

What limited your ability to perform faster:

RUNNING, REALLY REALLY HATE IT>>>>

Event comments:

Seriously, who has a race without Gatorade at the finish line.. how sad. There are more things that I can talk about but I dont want a worst taste in my mouth.... I didnt come in last over all, but I did in the bike/run and in my age group. How sad is that?? I was so not mentally perpared for this race. Now i know better..

Everyone was saying that the swim course was short, I don’t think it was but Im not contestant enough to tell. The RD did say that the bike was alittle shorter and the run was longer, that was because the T!/T2 area was moved further south..

If I were to look at this race from an improvement position I should be happy. However, I felt that I could have finish 3:25 min with all of the training that I have done. I have improved in all areas and yet this race made it look like I haven’t done anything different since last year.. Even though this is only my second Olympic Triathlon I expected more of an improvement. Now I have to sign up for Nathan’s, to see where I am for SOMA. Sure in the HELL cant use Mountainman this year… Also I really think I need to train in altitude and hills, but only race flat courses

Wow, that was dissappointing... Next year i may do the sprint for fun since I wanted to turn around at each of the sprint turn points..
