Swim
Comments: I'll admit I got really nervous after getting in the water, so much so that I couldn't settle down and get into my rhythm. I lost a lot of time due to leaky goggles, too (didn't want to lose that contact lens :)) What would you do differently?: Try and get some more open water swims in. In the first race I ever did - Thundergust 2005 - I cruised through the water. I think the folk lore of the Schuylkill caught up with me. Transition 1
Comments: Considering this transition area was much, much bigger than that of Thundergust and my T1 there was over 3:09, I'm much happier and convinced that I picked it up a bit this time around. What would you do differently?: Not much. Bike
Comments: I'm happy with my pace considering some of the really long, slow climbs up Ford Road and Lemon Hill. On the flat ground, I was consitently hitting 20 to 21 mph, much faster than at Thundergust. I managed to pass a lot of athletes, which this time around was a welcome change. What would you do differently?: Not much. Transition 2
Comments: I'm happy with my time here. Good transition time, during which I managed to remember everything for the run. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: The heat kicked into overdrive by the time I was out on the run. I lost a lot of steam by the 2-mile mark and alternated running and walking. I did finish really strong, though, with a quarter-mile-plus sprint to the finish. What would you do differently?: More bricks during training. I couldn't shake the lead legs feeling. Post race
Warm down: Hugged the girlfriend and got her all sweaty :) Then ate lunch in the shade and ogled the Endless Pool the race had set up. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat, which I don't perform well in. I was a little too nervous in the water, too. Event comments: The team behind the race did a great job with its organization efforts. Gels, water, and HEED were abundant, and the course was awesome. Last updated: 2005-07-22 12:00 AM

Got up around 4 a.m. and had a light breakfast of a peanut butter sandwich and banana, followed by a shower to wake up. Kissed the girlfriend on the head and snuck out the door.
Rode my bike to the transition area, which is about three miles from my house. After getting set up, I jogged enough to break the a sweat and then did some stretching and active muscle exercises.
