Pre-race routine:

Up early as usual. Pat drove Glen and I to race. Got signed in and got transition set up. Everything seemed to go slow and I was running behind. Drooled over the super bikes and wheels. Two new P4's in transition. Made notes of the numbers to see results later.
Event warmup:

About 1/2 mile jog and 2 short race pace pickups.
Run
  • 21m 48s
  • 3.1 miles

Comments:

My best 5k time for this year. First mile went quick and felt good, then pushed to try to maintain pace. Nothing exciting or really interesting on the run.
What would you do differently?:

More track/speedwork. It's progressing.
Transition 1
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

Little slower than I had hoped, but had a little trouble getting out of running shoes and into bike shoes
What would you do differently?:

Hurry Up!

Comments:

My first race to get to finish on the bike. My teammates were both ahead of me coming out of T1. I caught Glen soon after T1. He was passing another biker. I was going to wait until he completed the pass then pass him. Glen got his wheel ahead of the guy, but the guy would not back off. I hollered "on your left," and then the guy yelled "on your left" at Glen. I hollered that the pass had been made and to drop back, but the guy wouldn't. Glen moved over enough to let me by. This guy has done other tri's, but obviously doesn't understand the rules.
The course was an out and back, so one 180 turn around a cone, and I counted 15 or 16 people ahead of me at the turnaround. Then lost count on the way back in. I pushed hard the last 2 miles.
Passed quite a few very nice bikes and Zipp wheels. I did not get passed.
There were 2 P4's there. They are very nice to look at, but I had a better bike time than both of them.
Finishing on the bike was a blast!!!
What would you do differently?:

Practice turning in aero, but just didn't trust the corners to be swept as well as they were. Other than that, very happy with the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Short spinning ride, then walked and talked as usual.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just started track/speedwork so that should help my run time. Not the best transition time, need to work on that. Maybe someday I can afford some high dollar equipment, but I'm doing alright on what I have for now.

Event comments:

Very fun, unique bike finish. Roads a little rough, but not terrible. Very well organized. Looking forward to it again next year.
