Swim
Comments: I have to say I was pretty nervous going into this since it was my first OWS. I've been swimming most of my life and most of it competitively so i wasn't worried about my ability. I was just worried about not being in a pool. in the end, it was awesome. I hit the water at the start and did what I knew best. It was cold so I tarzan swam for a bit. I soon realized that made it difficult to breath so it then turned into breaststroke and soon after all out freestyle. I passed a lot of people on the swim. By the time i found my real groove it was time to get out. I was insanely happy ewith my time for the swim. What would you do differently?: Warm up a bit more. Just swim freestyle from the start. Relax. Transition 1
Comments: This was honestly my first transition. I had planned to practice them before the race and never got a chance to do so. Looking back it went really smoothly. What would you do differently?: Practice a bit more Bike
Comments: The bike course looked a little daunting on the way up the day before but when I rode it for the race it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. It went awesome. I do think it was longer than 15 miles though. According to my bike computer I averaged 17.2 mph and according to my results i averaged 15.2 mph. What would you do differently?: Train more on hills but all in all I would race it the same as I did this time. I just need to get myself a tri bike rather than a 17 year old Specialized mountain bike. Transition 2
Comments: Felt quick. I didn't have clipless pedals or shoes to change so I basically ran thee bike in., racked it, took helmet off, sprayed on some sunscrenn, grabbed my visor and ran. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I thought it went well and was over really fast. Turns out it was closer to 3 rather than 3.4. I think i still had a respectable split considering all I had already done. What would you do differently?: I really need to work on my run pace. I would love to be under 9 min miles. I seem to be built more or distance than speed. I'll just keep running for now and work the run over the winter. Post race
Warm down: Got an ice cold towel at the finish, found my family and enjoyed the post race grub. The bulk of my warm down was wandering around and looking for my splits as they were being posted. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing. As my first race I was in it for me and I did awesome. In 2 weeks when I do my next one I'll really look at my pacing and really push myself. I cannot wait! Event comments: This was just a great event and a well run machine. The town was beautiful and the volunteers were the best. I thanked as many of them as I could. Endorfun put together a super event and the venue was perfect. I will definitely be back next year and I'm hoping to do the Lord of the Flies trifecta. Last updated: 2009-06-16 12:00 AM

Woke up at 440 am before my alarm. We had come into town the day before so we were within walking distance. Had a peanut butter sandwich, got organized, kissed my wife and son and headed out to transition. It had rained the night before and everything was foggy that morning with the exception of one patch of blue where you could still see the moon.
Got set up, had an orange and a zone bar, chatted with my new neighbors and met some great BTers. Squeezed into my wetsuit and headed down to the swim start with a friend of mine who was doing the race too. Hopped in for a few minutes to paddle around and then had to climb out for the start.
