Total Time = 2h 41m 44s
Overall Rank = 54/190
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 16/31
Pre-race routine:

Cereal, a cliff and some fruit bars/gel before race. Stup was at 7 but male oly didn't go till 9:30

Event warmup:

None.

Swim
  • 30m 30s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 02s / 100 meters
Comments:

I got kicked in the face HARD by a woman relayer that was on her back doing some weird breast stroke/frog kick. Lucky it hit the goggles first so there was no damage.

Went with the middle pack so was able to find and keep feet for much of the race. And by luck the guys I was chasing had good sighting but I still checked.

What would you do differently?:

I might bite the bullet and go for some serious swim lessons next year. I can do 2/100 all day with a low heartrate but it would be nice to get in the top 20%
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

Went down the wrong bike aisle argh. Not a big deal, took a bit of time to put on sunblock spray but overall it was good.
What would you do differently?:

Pretty much habit at this point, so I think it's good.
Bike
  • 1h 15m 34s
  • 40 kms
  • 31.76 km/hr
Comments:

Good bike - was windier than last time, but the road conditions were better and less turning in and out of side streets. No chicanes this race, but a few people got stuck behind trucks on the downhill.

What would you do differently?:

1km/hr improvement over last year with more wind so we'll try for another km/hr increase next time.

Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Bike racks can't hold my bike from front cause of aerobottle and the rear is a tough fit cause of rear cage holder. Consider removing rear cages for any future short races (though it's nice to use to bring bottles to the site)

What would you do differently?:

Just more running practice.
Run
  • 51m 59s
  • 10.3 kms
  • 05m 03s  min/km
Comments:

Good run - would like to have held my HM pace but it was just a bit too much.

Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

IM 5 weeks ago so not much training since then.

Event comments:

Same as the last 3 years - lots of door prizes (one guy got 2K worth of loot).
