Swim
Comments: Swimming is my strong suite. Friends had advised me to sprint out in front of the rest of my wave. I ended up being behind a group of guys before the start. This was a mistake. I struggled to get around what seemed to be a wall of bodies all swimming in different directions. The 1st 100-200yds were a mess. I could not navigate around the mess until getting past the 1st turn (buoy). At one point, I was doing breast stroke to look for a hole. I found a good line about 350 yds into the swim and started making up time. I was able to sprint the last 150yds and pass a bunch of people. However, I stood up too early in the shallows. That slowed me down. What would you do differently?: 1. Start in front and cruise the rest (get way ahead of the pack). 2. Swim until I feel the ground in my hands, I stood up too early. I could have cut 2 minutes off of my swim just by doing those two things. I could have easily been in the top three in my age group Transition 1
Comments: I had the 2nd slowest T1 of anyone in my group... I put on socks and my shoes before heading out. Slower than Christmas is how I would describe it LOL. What would you do differently?: Everything. Hey what can I say, it was my 1st time :) Bike
Comments: The rain screwed with my mind. I had not been on my bike in nearly 3 weeks. Live and learn. I have a lot to work on with the bike. What would you do differently?: Train in the rain, aero bars and work on my cadence. I did enjoy the ride tho. I felt strong considering I had not been on a bike in a couple weeks. I should have sprint the last 5 miles... too worried about the run tho. Much to learn about cycling. Transition 2
Comments: I might have had the slowest T2 of anyone who raced that day LOL! I will not wear socks next time. AND I will untie my running shoes when setting up my transition area. Novice mistakes here. What would you do differently?: Everything... No Socks in a Sprint imo Run
Comments: I was happy with my run. What would you do differently?: Do not wear socks Post race
Warm down: Walked around and did some leg stretches. What limited your ability to perform faster: 1. I'm a strong swimmer, I need to get in front before the start. 2. No socks 3. work on transitions The swim will set the pace for my performance. Event comments: The family and I had an awesome time. The rain did not stop the coordinators from getting the job done. I would recommend this tri to anyone. Tyler is a great place and everyone was helpful and friendly. Thanks East Texas Triathletes and Sponsors. See you next year! Last updated: 2009-07-14 12:00 AM

Very little sleep the night before race. Woke up at 5:15 and went through my gear, ate zone bar, banana and gatorade. 1 cup of coffee. Got to the race site at about 6:40am. It was raining pretty steady. Set up my transition area and forgot to untie my running shoes. Everything was sopping wet withing 10 minutes LOL. I headed out of transition about 7:20. Got my race chip and headed for the lake for warm-up swim. The water was 84degrees. Felt great! (I got a chill waiting for my wave to start)
I did some stretching and a 100yd warm-up in the lake. Noticed that with the rain, caution was the rule of the day.
