Pre-race routine:

Got there, changed into racing attire then met my friend. He's getting excited about his first marathon in a couple of weeks. I don't know what he's talking about! ;)
Event warmup:

We jogged slowly for 10min or so and did a couple of accelerations. I was feeling good and confident at that point. The right knee, my trouble spot was feeling fine, so at that point I decided I would leave it all on the course and see if I could PR for the third time this year on the distance.

Comments:

So the gun goes off... there was A LOT of traffic for such a short race. I got hit by a couple of elbows and probably hit a few people as well. The race was 3 laps but every lap was not the same as the previous one. I started running like a crazy mother effer, which is pretty much what I always do in such short races, and hope I can hold the pace.

The first lap went all right, I was playing with the engine's red line but I felt fine. Second lap: Suprise! We went in the parc instead of running around it and there were small hills there. Nothing horrifying, but the kind that slowly grind you down both physically and mentally. Since I was kind of surprised, I probably went too fast in that first one and it took much energy away from me. We we hit the 5k mark, I realized I PRed on the distance. Instead of being happy, I had a minute or two of saying to myself "Why don't you slow th f*ck down? You already PRed on something anyways!" I then found something positive to keep me going, thanks to the downhill false flat but the legs were getting heavy as hell. The last lap was shorter, but the last km or so was all uphill making a final sprint extremely hard because I had been playing with the red line so much. My friend came in about 15sec after me, a great confidence builder for him.

Splits - Guess where the hills are...:
Start - 1k => 4:15
1k - 3k => 4:15/km
3k - 4k => 4:32
4k - 5k => 4:26 - 5k PR => 21:43
5k - 6k => 4:29
6k - 8k => 4:41/km
8k - 9k => 4:23
9k - finish => 4:47
What would you do differently?:

I couldn't hold the pace with the greatest pace booty in the second half... dang! ;)
Know the course before racing it, other than that, I'm happy.
Post race
Warm down:

The weather took care of the warm down. I needed to get out quickly of my wet clothes in order to stay away from a potential cold, so I just went to get my backpack and changed into dry clothes. Then chatted with a couple of friends and went home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It's "off season", last month and half of training was below average, I wasn't near peak fitness, very normal.
