Overcast
Total Time = 2h 15m 21s
Overall Rank = 38/622
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 4/45
Pre-race routine:

Begins Saturday with a visit to the chiropractor to make sure the body is aligned. Dropped off the bike and swam in the lake to test the waters. Attempted to relax, rest, and focus.
Event warmup:

Stretching at all possible moments. The IM distance swim started one hour before International distance, but all had to be out of transition by 7am. So, not much ability to warm up as stretch, which was fine.
Swim
  • 16m 17s
  • 1056 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

My navigation was 100% on the ball; happy especially with the current due to heavy winds. I cruised in the wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

Good, solid pace. Any faster or harder would have affected bike performance.
Transition 1
  • 03m 10s
Comments:

LONG run to T1. Time comparable to top 10 in AG. T2 rank: 5th in AG.
What would you do differently?:

My transitions are getting better, more competitive. Need to work on bike mounting.
Bike
  • 1h 07m 18s
  • 22 miles
  • 19.61 mile/hr
Comments:

Winds 32 MPH, gusts at 38 MPH. Top speed at 27 MPH, low speed at 13 MPH. Terrible head winds. Crosswinds okay.
What would you do differently?:

I think I maintained a good cadence with gears, all things considered. Bike is obviously my weakest link.
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
What would you do differently?:

Would have liked to be at 1-minute mark, but I can't complain...my T2 time was 4th in the AG.
Run
  • 47m 2s
  • 6.6 miles
  • 07m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

The mile markers were non-existant. Didn't know where I was except once or twice. My right quad cramped up at mile 2, ran through it, was okay until mile 4 when left quad started to cramp up, then both quads felt crampy. Pushed through to the end.
What would you do differently?:

I think I planned the bike portion okay. While I was shooting for 45 minutes, I can't complain about 47, all things considered (from the bike torture).
Post race
Warm down:

Water and some new sports drink that's nothing but healthy ingredients. I need to start buying this by the case. Then went straight to the massage tent.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

32 MPH winds with 38 MPH gusts during the bike.

Event comments:

Goals: top 5 in AG and qualify for Nationals AG Championship. I accomplished both!
